Hearing the Voice of God
Today many people claim to hear the audible voice of God
there are a lot of dreams supposedly from God
and visions that come from God
The internet is full of them
most of them claim to be prophetic.
Does God speak to us audibly today?
What about the still small voice of Elijah
We sometimes hear small voices in our heads and we have to wonder was that God? last nights pizza?
or something more sinister a demon trying t get us to follow a lie?
What does the Bible say about the voice of God today
we are going to look at this this morning
Read Jeremiah 2 1.
Pray
Obeying the Voice of God
Establishing a president
Turn to Exodus 19 1-8.
Moses went up Sinai and returned with instructions for Israel
and wrote them down
These written down instructions were considered the voice of God
Exodus 20 is the 10 commandments written down considered the voice of God
Exodus 24 3-4. the voice of God written down
All the way into Jeremiah we see the the Written law as the Voice of God
So we need to look at the entire scripture as the Voice of God
The voice of God is very much associated with the written word
given to men to write down
So the voice of God is our scriptures
God spoke audibly with Adam and Eve
Moses, The Prophets, Peter with vision of the sheet
God spoke to Nebuchadnezzar in a dream
God spoke through an angel to Mary and Joseph
The Bible has many instances of God speaking audibly
but is God speaking to us today the same way?
Jonah was spoken to and ran away
each one of these times they knew it was God
there was no wondering
the boy Samuel was the only one who the voice was
Again the voice of God has in the Bible been heard through visions, angels, audibly, and dreams
but 99% of the people heard the voice of God through the written word
most people today that claim to hear the voice of God distorts and perverts the written word of God
So how can we believe them when they say God spoke to me
A New Revelation
There are many new revelations from God today
the Mormons were started with a new revelation from God to Joseph Smith
The seventh day Adventist were started with a new revelation from God to Ellen G White
The New Apostolic Reformation preachers, and prophets claim to talk with God on a regular basis
they claim to go to Heaven and talk with Jesus and the Father weekly
so if it is true that this is the case then we must take whatever they say as coming from God as if is an extension of the Bible
me must accept the writings of Joseph Smith as the actual word of God and add it to our scriptures
There are a lot of so called new revelations flying around out there
a lot of dreams supposedly from God
a lot of visions supposedly from God
So is there people actually hearing the audible voice of God today?
What Does The Bible Say?
Turn to Hebrews 1.
God before spoke through the prophets
but now all of the Speaking to us is though the Written word
and through Jesus, and Jesus speaks to us through the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit will impress on you the will of Jesus
Pray for this person
stop here and talk with this other person
its more of an Idea you have, a heart tug
George Muller a man of great faith.
had a desire to open an orphanage in England
When he read the following passage he took it literally
George took this literally and did exactly that
Why did he do that, because the Holy Spirit was speaking to his heart
Does Jesus speak to us audibly today?
I say yes, but very rarely, and it would be personal
I have heard of a time when a christian soldier in Russia was ordered to renounce his faith.
He refused so his commander, being in the dead of winter, ordered him to put on his summer uniform and stand at attention in the middle of the square until he renounces.
as he was standing out there he was visited by what he said was Jesus and was told that Jesus would be there with him throughout the whole ordeal.
The next morning after standing all night the commander was amazed that he was still alive and ordered him to resume is normal duties.
but again this would be the exception
Many today are claiming to hear voices, dreaming dreams, having visions
Jere 23 25-26
1 John 4 1-6.
Not all spirits giving us visions, dreams, or even audible words is from God
If it does not line up with the word of God, that’s the 1st big no
Be careful
There a lot of people out there who have had dreams an visions about the future of america and the world
a lot of modern day prophets who are saying a bunch of hogwash
be careful
if you hear or have a dream or vision, Put the Bible up against it
will it stand up?
