Babylon Today

Babylon being are attachment to this world
There is an attachment to the things we have, we do not want to give up the comfortable to step into something that is not as comfy, the problem with getting up in the morning is the bed is cozy and the office is cold, at least my office always is.
Isaiah 43:14–15 (NIV)
This is what the Lord says— your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “For your sake I will send to Babylon and bring down as fugitives all the Babylonians, in the ships in which they took pride.
I am the Lord, your Holy One, Israel’s Creator, your King.”
Babylon started with the tower of babel in Genesis 11 where God sends those who are trying to construct the tower away speaking different languages.
The Tower of Babel is our first look into this idea of a counter ideology, one that is against God and his way. In the garden we had a character and now we have the idea that there may be another way other than Gods way. However through the story we see a glimpse of what God’s power is, that he separates the people building the tower because of his hatred of what it symbolizes.
God’s purpose here was not to make it harder to follow him, but make it harder to follow the idea of a society against his way. This follows more and more as we read through the narrative and there is swings of God’s power demolishing this idea and God allowing his people to be punished by following this idea.
Take for example Babylon take Israel as captives, God gave Israel so many chances to turn for their ideas of selfishness and move towards him, but he finally allows Israel to be taken captives because of their unrepentant hearts.
Then finally in Revelation we read about Babylon finally getting what is coming to it as there is a final warning to escape this falsity that is Babylon. Leave it before the tower of Babel finally collapses on the people. God’s judgement to those who have placed their trust, who valued their time in Babylon is coming. Revelation 18:21
Revelation 18:21 NIV
Then a mighty angel picked up a boulder the size of a large millstone and threw it into the sea, and said: “With such violence the great city of Babylon will be thrown down, never to be found again.
It is the desolation of Babylon, there is now no other ideology that stands against God and his kingdom. There is only the love of God for his people and the prosperity of life under his rule.
So when we place ourselves in the middle of God’s plan we can see Babylon is not the physical representation of the enemy of God’s people but rather Babylon is the idea of “better life” with out God. Which is destructive to God’s plans and so he will destroy it at the end of the age.
Babylon being our desire to stay the same
Even more is when we look at this idea of what Babylon is today, this idea of all the things that stray from God’s way to our own way.
When we put words to this idea I think that there is on idea of Babylon that overtakes us today. That idea being that we should be timid and resserved rather then Allow god’s spirit to work through us, we need to overcome the idea of being outside of our comfort zone.
The idea of being in our comfort zone is well, comfortable, its cozy, its the warm blanket and a cup of hot chocolate.
Rather God wants to invite you not into complacency but rather into his power and his purpose.
He wants to call you away from Babylon and towards his plan.
