We are finishing our series this morning.
Yes, You: Fulfilling God’s Purpose.
This four-week series explores the lives of a few unlikely people whom God used to do amazing things.
Through the stories of David, Rahab, John Mark, and Gideon, we will see that God uses the small, the outsider, those behind the scenes, and the timid to do amazing things in the world.
Last week we looked at John Mark and how he was a behind the scenes guy.
We saw how he most likely got scared and ran away when the job got hard.
He was young when he deserted his mentor and lost their trust.
Later on we saw that he regained the trust of Paul and other.
John Mark was ultimately used by God to do great think.
He served as one of the leader of the church.
He wrote one of the book of the bible.
God can use you if you let him and its ok to be behind the scenes person.
This morning we will be talk about a person named Gideon.
So if you have your bible go head and turn to Judges 6:1–7:25.
If not you can follow along on the screen in a few moments.
Before we look at Gideon.
I have a question for you.
Have you ever said
I can’t do this?
Maybe it was something at work or home, or a season in life that was overwhelming.
Maybe it was something you felt God was calling you to do, but you were ill-prepared or doubted your ability.
Does this ring turn for anyone.
I have been there many of time saying I can’t do this anymore.
Im done.
I have found when this happen I am most of the time in a low spot.
Were i cant see a way out.
Many times, we see only the impossibilities in a situation, while God is trying to show us our role in his story of redemption.
One biblical character who was skeptical of God’s call was Gideon.
God calls Gideon
Gideon had a problem with this.
Gideon struggle to believe God
Throughout the chapter God calls Gideon to be strong and tear down the pagan nations and deities who are oppressing God’s people.
Gideon struggles to believe God has the right person and asks for proof.
Gideon tested God
He lays out a wool fleece for God soak but not wet the ground.
God performs this test.
But Gideon wants God to do it again—only, opposite, which would be a more obvious miracle—and God does it (6:36–40).
Gideon would go on to defeat the Midianites with a small army (7:1–25), showing that God is powerful and faithful, to the anxious Gideon’s surprise.
Its seem simple right.
Gideon just trust God.
But its not.
Our human nature gets in the way
We think that we are not good enough.
Or that we can do it a later time when we when are more equip to do the task at hand.
I have though this many time.
I will do it later when I have time.
A lot of time we allow our personal selves to get in the way.
So thing wont happen.
You see that what Gideon did.
He tried his best to get our of what God was called him to do.
He want this text to fall.
So he could say see God I told you this wouldn’t work out.
I told you that I was not ready for this.
I knew I couldn’t do it.
You can’t do it alone
When you have big thing to accomplish.
Gideon was scared to go to battle but when he trusted in God and obeyed.
The Israelites were set free for the seven year of oppression.
There will be time that we concered about giving thing over to God.
We can trust in him that he will take care of tomorrow.
We must be obediant and not fearful in following him.
You never know what God is calling you to do.
all you have to say is ok I’m good.
Will you put your trust in God?
Big Idea of the Message: Even though Gideon was skeptical of God and of himself, God was faithful and used Gideon to save his people.
Application Point: We will trust God’s power rather than cowering in fear or trusting our own strength.
