The Greatness of God

Psalm 19:1 “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.”

God said . . .

Again, we see the authority of God.

Let there be an expanse

God expands the universe.
God separates the waters.
Waters under the expanse.
Waters above the expanse.

What are the waters above the expanse?

Canopy Theory
Answers the question: “Where did the flood waters come from?”
Answers the long-life challenge.
Has Biblical and Scientific Problems
Verse 7 states that the waters are above the expanse.
Psalm 148:1-4 “Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise him in the heights! Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his hosts! Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars! Praise him, you highest heavens, and you waters above the heavens!”
Water does not protect from UV.
Water does absorb infrared, which would cook the earth.
Edge of the Universe Theory
There must be water on the edges of the universe.

The Amazing Design of Water

High specific heat, so that oceans are slow to heat and cool, hindering great swings of temperature.
Enormous latent heat of vaporization - it takes a lot of energy to boil it. This allows us to cool because of sweating.
High surface tension so some insects can run on its surface.
Super solvent: having polar molecules, it can dissolve many substances including many salts and sugars.
Hydrogen bonding, which makes its melting and boiling points much higher than other similar molecules.
Expands when freezing, unlike most liquids. So lakes freeze at the top first, which insulates the rest of the lake from freezing, so fish can still live under the ice.

And it was so.

Again, we see immediate fulfillment.
For God to accomplish this, the expanse had to move faster than the speed of light.

God called . . .

God named the expanse Heaven.
Hebrews would view Heaven as three sections:
First Heaven - the sky where birds fly.
Second Heaven - outer space.
Third Heaven - where God resides.

Evening and morning

Emphasizing the regular time period of a day.
A second day - not “the” second day.

What about it being good?

God does not call this part good. It is because this is step one of a two-step process.

The Glory of God

When we understand the size of the universe, it should cause us to glorify God.
The universe is believed to be 93 billion light years long.
To understand how big a light year is, do the following:
Take the circumference of the earth and lay it out in a straight line (24,900 miles)
Multiply that by 7.5 (which gives you 186,750 miles - which is one light second).
Multiply that by about 31.536 million (about 6 trillion miles.
There isn’t one place in the universe you can go and not find God’s presence.
Psalm 139:7-8 “Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!”
Yet God is intimately involved in our lives.
Psalm 139:13 “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.”
John 3:16 ““For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
