The Miracle of Raising the Lame Man
A man born lame, carried about day by day. He is helpless apart from the aid of others. He is powerless apart from the strength of others. He is penniless apart from the generosity of others.
He is a picture of all of us before coming to faith in Christ. Spiritually we are helpless, powerless, an poverty stricken.
He was close to the place of worship, but the power of the Lord had not yet impacted his life. How many times had he heard of Jesus? Had Jesus even passed by Him?
He sat at the Beautiful gate, the Eastern most gate leading from the court of the Gentiles to the court of the women. Josephus said that it was made of thick bronze overlaid with silver and gold. The early rays from the morning sun would have reflected off it.
“Silver and gold have I none, but such as I have give I thee...” The power of the Gospel is not found in prosperity or fancy buildings, but in the message of life through the Resurrected Christ!
Thomas Aquinas visited Pope Innocent II while he was counting money that had been collected. Pope - “Thomas, the church can no longer say, silver and gold have I none!” Thomas, “Yes, but neither can it say, Rise up and Walk!”
It is the power of the Lord that gives strength to believe. It is the power of the Lord that brings restoration

The nation of Israel, and in particular its leaders rejected Christ and His right to reign.
It was all done according to the plan of God. Acts 2:23 “this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.”

Christ is Lord, the empty tomb is proof!
Peter spoke these words just yards from where Christ had been taken, beaten, and sentenced to death. The people knew that His body was no longer in the grave. The leaders knew it as well!

In the same way that faith in the name of Christ brought restoration to a man’s legs, so faith in the name of Christ Jesus will bring restoration to the weak and weary soul.
Peter was telling the nation of Israel that if they would repent and accept Christ, the Lord would send the promise of national restoration.
4 Say to those who have an anxious heart, “Be strong; fear not! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.” 5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; 6 then shall the lame man leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute sing for joy. For waters break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert;
Refreshing from the Lord comes by repentance and faith in Christ’s Work!
If you want to be refreshed, if you want to be restored, you must first repent and accept Christ by faith. You cannot lift yourself out of your weakness, your sin, your despair. But Christ can and will! Look to Him!
