Thus Says The Lord

Yaweh has something important to tell us
This is coming from His lips to our ears
Hopefully it is coming from His lips to our heart
Thus says the Lord, this is not my thoughts
but this is coming directly from Him
we are going to look at these 4 verses as evangelically
About the un-saved and the saved
setting the scene
God Has brought them into the promised land
The land flowing with milk and honey
a land with plenty of water, rains in their seasons
God has promised them prosperity, and a rich abundant life
but
Deuteronomy 29:22–25 (LEB)
“And the next generation, that is, your children who will rise up after you, and the foreigner who will come from a distant land, when they will see the plagues of that land and its diseases that Yahweh has inflicted upon it, will say, ‘All its land is brimstone and salt left by fire, none of its land will be sown, and it will not make plants sprout out and it will not grow any vegetation; it is as the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Adman and Zeboiim, which Yahweh overturned in his anger and in his wrath.’ And all the nations will say, ‘Why has Yahweh done such a thing to this land? What caused the fierceness of this great anger?’ And they will say, ‘It is because they abandoned the covenant of Yahweh, the God of their ancestors, which he made with them when he brought them out from the land of Egypt.
And this is where we pick up this account
But before we read our passage for today lets look at mankind
Adam and Eve in the garden
Adam had dominion over the earth, he spoke to the animals
he tended the lush garden of God
he walked and talked daily with God
His life was perfect no worries, no sickness, no bills, taxes, or hospitals
God told him not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil
and of course we know what happened
and we know the consequence
Genesis 3:17–19 LEB
And to Adam he said, “Because you listened to the voice of your wife and you ate from the tree from which I forbade you to eat, the ground shall be cursed on your account. In pain you shall eat from it all the days of your life. And thorns and thistles shall sprout for you, and you shall eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you shall eat bread, until your return to the ground. For from it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
And to the man Adam and his descendants
Romans 5:12 LEB
Because of this, just as sin entered into the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death spread to all people because all sinned.
now have the background of what God is declaring
read Jeremiah 17 5-8.

A Juniper in the desert

V 5 Cursed is the person
everyone born is a cursed person condemned to hell
Jesus was cursed on the cross by God
He drank from the cup of the full wrath of God
the cursed person is destined to the lake of fire
to the place of darkness
to the place of eternal loneliness
no love, no hope,
eternal excruciating pain
John 3 says Jesus came to save because we are condemned already
we are cursed by God
some think its pretty bad when you are cursed by a witch doctor
but being cursed by God almighty, the sovereign ruler of the universe
This is a person who trusts in himself, to pull himself up by his boot straps
who is actually an enemy of God and does not even know it
V 6 he is a lone shrub in a barren wilderness
but he is blinded by satan, he thinks life is great
he thinks he is a pretty good person
if we could see the inside of us like God can
we would see the maggot infested decay
the putrid smell of gang green
we would see the worms and roaches crawling though the sewers of our minds
the good works, our righteous deeds
Isaiah 64:6 LEB
And we all have become like the unclean, and all our deeds of justice like a menstrual cloth, And we all wither like a leaf, and our iniquities take us away like the wind.
but the unsaved, what theology calls totally depraved
cannot see his own depravity
he is that lone shrub in a desert and thinks
I look a lot better than the desert around me, so I must be pretty good
V 6 He will not see good
Jesus came to the world healing and teaching
all the leaders saw was a threat to their lifestyle
Jesus came to usher in the kingdom, but he was murdered
God came earth to be one of us and we thought it best if we kill him
We are born haters of God and if we could we would join the others in killing him
The life of the unsaved is in total rebellion against God
We may be in the church pew for years
apart of the leadership of the church
but you have not seen the good
you have not seen the grossness of your sin
you have not been next to Jesus and realizing who he is
you look around and compare your self to the desert you live in
and not realize the depravity of who you really are
because of the blindness

Blessed Is The Person

the desert Juniper started in the desert and there it will live
lets look at the blessed person
the blessing come from God
the blessing comes from our trusting in God
the person went from trusting in himself and others to trusting in God
the person went from seeing himself as a pretty good guy
to seeing himself through the eyes of God
that is done by the Holy Spirit making us able to see for the first time
and we realize the depths of our sin, the condemnation that is upon us
but there is good news
Ephesians 2:8–9 LEB
For by grace you are saved through faith, and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God; it is not from works, so that no one can boast.
Grace is the reservoir that comes abundantly from God
Grace is freely given grace is not earned
cant work for it, or buy it
Grace is given to us for the glory of God
Faith is looking to Jesus on the cross and saying In need you
the Israelites in the wilderness looking at the brass serpent to be healed
There is a tightrope show come to town and they put a cable between 2 tall buildings. the man goes back and fourth between and does stunts then he takes a wheelbarrow and pushes it across and back. then he asks the crowd do you think that I could take you across and back? the crowd cheers and says yes. if that is the case could I get a volunteer to come on up?
Faith is getting into Jesus’ wheelbarrow
Faith is taking the hand of Jesus
faith is curling up in Jesus lap and say only you can save me
when that happens grace is flowed into your life.
when that happens we become a new creature
our thoughts change, we have a new life
we become V 8
a tree planted, we are uprooted from the bareness of the wilderness
and God supernaturally plants us by a stream where our roots live in the living waters
Your sin is cast away, it’s thrown into the depth of the sea
the books have been wiped clean by the blood of Jesus on the cross
the Judge has declared us not guilty, because the penalty for our sin has been paid for
Where is your tree?
