Some would say we are living in “The Age of Perpetual Offense”
Quick Judge | Critisize | Condemn | Cancel anyone that offends.
Politicians | Athletes | Biz Leaders | Celebrities | Spiritual Leaders | Kids School Teacher | Person we work with | Friends on Social Media.
Doesn’t take much | Single Misstatement | Someone could have years of integrity., did something dumb- cancel | Our friends we unfollow based onhow they voted | It could be a disagreement over a single isue
It could be petty | Don’t like the way they dressed | Never comment on my posts | Slow to resond to a text | (bubbles) - Done.
The truth is, if you are on a constant search to be offended, you’ll always find what you’re looking for.
Today, I want to talk to you about one of the most important & Overlooked character traits that matters to God, and should matter to us. And not just because God’s heart is that we should all HAVE IT, but because what it might be ROBBING YOU FROM.
Today, let’s talk Honour.
My Hope: You will learn the difference between Honour and Respect | You will realise that Honour is not something we are just called to have, but it actually might be stopping God from working in your life.
Honour is important, not just for them, but for you.

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called,
Honour in Australia - American Mate - Basketball Player - We are terrible at honour | What ever your feeling, i’ve been there | Not Self Serving | Permission to bring the fire | It might be heavy, but so will the weight be when it’s lifted from you.
What going to do | Read a scripture from the Gospels | Go to 2 stories to see what we can learn | Come back to that scripture and see if we can learn why Honour is so important and release some people from Satans Stronghold. Good?

And on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things? What is the wisdom given to him? How are such mighty works done by his hands? Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. And Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household.” And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them.

What is Honour = Time (Tim-may) = Build up | Esteem | Value |
Opposite = Atimos = Dishonour = to treat as Common or Ordinary.
What does Honour Do? Esteems | Cheriches, Value, it brings value to them, It builds them up.
What does Dishonour do? Treats as Common | Tears down | Brings Shame to someone | Devalues
Jesus, was Common, Got Elevated, and those that did not grow, didn’t want to know. what did they do? Bring him BACK to THEIR LEVEL. (be careful)
Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.
First Date = Honouring (flowers etc.)
Married - over time, take for granted, treats ordinary, Loses Honour
Some of us spend more time getting ready for an interview than dinner with the wife | You might get the job but you’re losing your marraige.
The Mistake we all make | We think that When you are honorable - Then I’ll show you Honor.
There is a difference between Honour and Respect.
Respect is Earned, Honour is Given
Honour isn’t just the right thing to do, it is siginificant in allowing God to move. 2 Stories to show this.
Turn to Numbers, and we are going to read about Miriam | Context = Miriam was Moses OLDER Sister | Some may say first worship leader | Prophetess, so she heard from God | Aaron was the Priest , Moses older Brother | and Miriam, started grumbling.
Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married, for he had married a Cushite woman. And they said, “Has the Lord indeed spoken only through Moses? Has he not spoken through us also?” And the Lord heard it.
Ethiopian Woman | Different colour | Was not the real issue | Look at the real issue - They could not stand, that Moses was in charge. They where older, more qualified.
Dishonour shows a lack of trust in God, and an over-confidence in self = Arrogant.
God allows people in leadership. May not approve, but he will deal with them | We can still lobby | Tension | Jesus is on the throne, line? Bible.
The word says that Moses was the most Humble man in the world - God would rather someone that is not competenet, humbly leaning on him, than someone that is over-confident, leaning on their own arrogance.
So Lord came down | Called them to principles office |
With him I speak mouth to mouth, clearly, and not in riddles, and he beholds the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?” And the anger of the Lord was kindled against them, and he departed.
When you speak against Moses, the person I allowed to take authority, you speak against me.
When you honour those in authority, you Honour God, and the opposite is true.
God was angry | Miriam had a role, a very important Role | God is trying to do something, now instead of stepping into her role, she is stepping on God’s toes | what does God do?
Miriam gets Leprasy - Don’t miss - This is the tragedy of Dishonour | It started with wanting to hurt Moses, but it ended up hurting Miriam |
Dishonour always starts with wanting to hurt them, but it always hurts you.
Black wife, now Miriam fully White | Moses Pleaded = Please | God said, her father would have spat on her, I just gave her Leprasy - So God in his Mercy said only 7 days, but she had to be seperated
Why? Because when you touch Leprasy, you become a lepar - Dishonour causes Spiritual Lepracy | God Isolated her, so it couldn’t Spread | The Spirit of Dishonour spreads | Because Leprosy attacks the nervs first, it gives you false assertion that everything is fine | meanwhile a toe might fall off, or an ear, or a finger, and you wont know - until it’s too late.
one word of Dishonour toward Moses stopped God’s plan for several million people for 7 days.
Honour is important, not just for them, but for you.
Our second story Noah | Drunk (I would to maybe, wnted it so bad he build a vineyard ) | Naked | Ham Finds him, look what happens
And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father and told his two brothers outside.
He went and told everyone | Not talking about Covering Sin - Bible deals with that | Everyone that is annointed will have flesh | What does Shem and Japheth do? Covers him, Walks backward |
and what happens to Ham? His brothers get massive blessings and it’s not Ham that it hurts;
he said, “Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be to his brothers.”
Honour Helps those around you, Dishonour hurts those around you.
A family that honours God - Teaches their Children | Chidren that honours parents, will honour their bosses and others | Dishonour is like leprosy, it hurts everything it touches | Honour buids up, Adds value, not just to the people you are honouring ,but to those that hear it.
Transition > It all starts with a Choice > A choice to beg God for a Spirit of Honour
David, in the Cave | Saul was trying to kill Him | Saul went into a cave to relieve himself | Perfect Opportunity | Saul did so much bad to David, turned on him, his friend | Davids men in his ear - Do it, kill him, get him - The LORD has delivered him but David, made a choice - To honour - he only cut off part of his robe.
So who do we choose to Honour?
We Honour God (Prov 3:9)
Wealth | First Fruits | Worship (not just lip service)
Honour our Parents (Exodus 20:12)
Those in Authority - (1 Peter 2:17)
Over the years, liked some leaders more than others. I disagree with some leaders, Can disagree without Dishonouring. We can Pray for them.
Our Pastors and Spiritual Leaders (1 Tim 5:17)
Church overseers worthy of double honour | Not Self Serving so I will deflect, and point out kids church leaders |

Why does this matter so much? More than just the right thing;
And Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household.” And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them.
not would not | Could Not | Just healed sick woman, bought someone back to life | Could not in the town that showed no honour.
Honour is important, not just for them, but for you
I have the Microphone, so I get to do what I want, so I am going to Honour a few people;
My Mum | Single Parent for a long time, made some mistakes sure, but I want to honour you | Dad - Sometimes we had a tough relationship, sometimes we did not have A relationship, now we are working on it - Honour You.
Our Leaders, I Want to honor you - and Say that we will be praying for you | (this part hard, we hate recieving honour) Wife | Some people in the church | Russel and Gerlind | Treva, Our Kids Church Leaders | Sam and Steph, stand | the people that serve, and Finally, just all of you our church body - What we are currently doin - Being Spiritual Contributors | Anything short of Sin to save someone | Spirit filled, warriors of God |
and I want to Honour Jesus.
It says in Matthew 15:8
“ ‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me;
(and isaiah, and Ezekial) - not like that - Don’t want to treat God as familir, or common, Not as a departed hero, but a living compnanion, he is not just baby jeuss.

My redeemer, Saviour, lord, my King. - Someone give Jesus some Praise!
As the Spiritual authotiy in this church I want to declare a spirit of Honour in this house | We will build up | Voice of Encouragement to our leaders | Unity in this house | Hope and Faith | Declare a spirit of honour in your homes | Marraiges | Children, leaders, those who serve and to our King JESUS
