I. Introduction.

Last Week we talked about the Golden lampstand in our series on the Tabernacle.
We remembered how that the Lampstand is a type of Christ.
Just as it was made from one beaten wedge of purest gold, so too was our Savior, beaten and bruised!
One central stem, with branches coming out of the side.
The first Adam needed a bride, the bride came from His side.
At the crucifixion, as blood and water gushed from Jesus’ wound, once more, the bride comes from the side!
One central stem, from which flowed oil to each branch!
And that flow friend, means everything!
Jesus himself said:
John 15:5 KJV 1900
I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
How important then is that flow of Holy Life? That free flowing connection between God and each of us?
I am reminded about the atrocious state of my back yard right now, and that little patch of grass...
How important is water to that grass?
When the sun beats down on it hour after long hour, day after day, that green water hose means everything!
Just so, our connection to life is the most important thing to your spirit man.
The chaos of life and flesh beats down on us everyday at work, at school, wherever we go and it can dry you up!
This is why we need to pray in the Spirit!!!
Let’s all say that together: We need to pray in the Spirit!
If my flow is hindered by some obstruction, let me put that in plainer terms: “If I am not praying enough, or if I find it difficult to pray because of some hard feeling or unforgiveness or behavior in me, then the flow is not flowing and I find myself a lot closer to the flesh and carnal things than to God!”
I have No victory, because the flow is shut off!
Can’t pray for others with confidence, or be a witness and a shining light!
And that friend, is exactly where Satan wants you! He wants your threat neuteralized.
Some of you know that I like guns.
Guns of all shapes and sizes, I love em!
New guns, old guns, really old guns, I love em all!
The history and people, culture and stories involved with firearms is something that I enjoy!
And the rights you do not exercise are the rights you will lose.
An yway, you meet some really interesting, responsible and law abiding people in that line!
And the other day, I was taking a combat shooting lesson from a man who really, really knows his stuff!
We were training a self defense scenario shooting targets and steel plates and things like that.
And he said something that I really appreciated:
“The goal is not to kill the person attacking you per se, the goal is to prevent him from hurting you!”
If you can stop the threat before killing him, so much the better! Amen! I couldn’nt agree more!
But did you know that Satan feels the same way?
He doesn’t have to take you out and get you completely backslid and in the world!
He doesn’t have to kill your spirit man!
All he has to do is get you injured or wrapped up in enough stuff that you are not a threat to him!
And it works!
Let’s be honest: When you are angry or resentful or worried, or maybe it’s family drama or some similar thing that obstructs the flow of Holy Oil, the enemy knows you aren’t going to witness to anybody!!!!
He knows you won’t pray for the sick or be the salt and light that God wants you to be!
Problem solved as far as he’s concerned!
Sure Satan will take you out if he can, and put a bullet in your head if he’s able. But all he really needs to do is obstruct your flow of Holy oil enough, that you change from being more than a Conqueror to being barely a survivor!
Pastor long enough, and you can tell when someone has obstructions lodged in their Spirit flow!
There is an inner light that can be seen when a person is walking in victory.
And it is the abscence of that light that I find scary.
“Sister so and so, brother so and so, we need to pray for them today! They need a breakthrough in Jesus Name!”
Perhaps you might admit to yourself:
“I’m a little dark myself tonight..”
“I need the light to come on again!”
That admission friend, is the first step to victory!
Here’s my point folks: It’s an easy fix: Pray until things are flowing smooth again!
You’re not a bad person!
You’re no villian!
This is an easy fix!
Get back to the Holy Place, and get the oil flowing smooth again!
Let your nearness to God revive you!
Let life flow into you once more!
He is our source!!!!
The golden lampstand provides light in darkness!
Every good think comes from Him!
And you can have as much as you want!
We know that life is a business of seasons.
There are seasons that we all go through and they can be so dark at times.
This is when you really need to step up your time with Jesus!
And here’s the miracle:
Jesus puts no limit on the flow!
From His side, the pressure is always there, steady, constant and pure!
The only obstructions are on our side.
How wonderful it is then, when you realize: I can be with him long enough, strong enough, that I’ll be able to overcome my circumstances!
If I need more grace to get through this season, I can have it!
“I’m gonna make it though this season!”
“And I will come through with flying colors!”
“Jesus is on my side! And there is no limit to the grace and strength and help He has for me!
We need to pray in the Spirit!
Now: I am very happy if you spoke in tongues ten years ago, but today has its own challenges!
We had an amazing meal the other night. T outdid herself in the kitchen and we ate this stew that was so good!
The meat was so tender and savory, the potatoes were just perfect!
Confession time: I ate so much, I could barely walk up the stairs!
But you know, one meal only lasts you so long!
The best tasting meal in the world only lasts so long!
Don’t live beneath your privilege folks!
Make sure the Holy oil can flow freely into your life!
So we are going to move on to the table of shewbread in a minute, but let’s take a moment here first and just let the oil flow.
I promise not to keep you long tonight, there is time to pray!
Suppose there was a man who had lived on the earth for several thousands of years,
That this man had often been thrown into the sea and yet could not be drowned; that he had frequently been cast before wild beasts who were unable to devour him;
that he had many times been made to drink deadly poisons which never did him any harm;
that he had often been bound by iron chains and locked away in prison dungeons, yet he had always been able to throw off the chains and escape from his captivity;
that he had repeatedly been hanged until his enemies thought him dead, yet when his body was cut down he sprang to his feet and walked away as though nothing had happened;
that hundreds of times he had been burned at the stake until there seemed to be nothing left of him, yet as soon as the fires were out, he leapt up from the ashes as well and vigourous as ever!
such a man would be superhuman, a miracle of miracles!
Yet this is the story of the BIble.
And all because God declared that HIs Word should abide forever.

II. The Shewbread

The table of shewbread literally means “The table of the presence.”
It was made of wood covered with gold, and the priests placed twelve loaves of bread on it.
They also offered frankincense on this table.
The bread was renewed every Sabbath, and the priests ate the old loaves.
In the Shewbread, we see a type of the Lord Jesus as “The Bread of Life.”
Jesus plainly said that HIs flesh, sacrificed for us, was the living bread that came down from heaven.
He called His broken body the Bread of Life, for those who feed upon this bread- eat His flesh and drink his blood shall have eternal life!
This refers to the celebration of communion or the Lord’s supper.
Does this sound strange to a modern listener? Sure!
But we are not talking about cannabalism!
And we do not believe in transubstantiation as it is not a Biblical doctrine. (Explain)
The grape juice and the unleavened bread are symbolic of His body and blood!
And in their thoughtful, mindful consumption, we celebrate Jesus’ sacrifice for us!
His victory is ours!
And we celebrate in rememberance, or in memory of him.
We rememeber that He was not some mystical ghostly being, but a real man with a real body, that He chose to sacrifice to save our souls from hell!
Thank you Jesus!
John 6:54–56 KJV 1900
Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
In fact, I think we are about due to celebrate Him! We need to ha ve communion again!
How do you feel, when we celebrate communion?
I always feel so unworthy, but awed and amazed and ready to be more and do more for Jesus!
As the Bread of LIfe, Jesus is also our daily spiritual food!
Ever thought about that?
In Numbers 4:7, the bread was called “The continual bread.”
Here is a statement that really challenges me:
It is the priviledge of every Christian to feed upon Christ every day and grow in Grace!
This is the table of shewbread!
The church at Berea had a good thing going folks! “They searched the Scriptures daily.” (Acts17:11)
Makes me think of gold miners searching for treasure!
I have decided to alter my approach to Bible reading to be more like that!
Search the Scriptures!
We celebrate His blood and his body in the Communion/the Lord’s supper.
But when you next read the Bible that rests on your nightstand, think of it in that same way!
You are ingesting truth! Internalizing Him!
“Do this in rememberence of me!”
Make it a Holy and powerful moment and it will be productive!!!!
This is not an interpretation, but there is a powerful application to made here:
Read your Word thoughtfully, searching for treasure!
You know the very method in which pread was prepared, is suggestive of the person and work of our Lord.
The seed must first be planted in the ground and die before it can produce a harvest.
The grains of wheat are chrushed and ground between the millstones, and then the dough is baked in the heat of the oven.
Similarly, our sacrifice was prepared in the heat of great suffering.
He was the grain of wheat buried in the earth to produce a harvest of true saints.
Finally, that table itself, the table of shewbread is a symbol of the church in that its purpose was not to show itself but to exhibit the bread.
The church is to show forth Christ, the Bread of Life, to a lost world!
Be proud of yourself for reading and obeying God’s Word!!!
When you read it and live it, you project it in this dark world!
Be proud of a Bible with scribbles and dog eared pages!
It is one thing to read the Bible through, Another thing to read and learn and do.
Some read it as their duty once a week, But no instructions from the Bible seek;
Some read to bring themselves into repute, By showing others how they can dispute;
While others read because their neighbors do, to see who long ‘twill take to read it through.
Some read it for the wonders that are there, How David killed a Lion and a bear!
While other read it with uncommon care, Hoping to find some contradictions there,
One reads it with his father’s specs upon his head, And sees the thing just as his father said.
Some read to prove a pre-adopted creed, Hence understand but little that they read;
For every passage in the Book they bend, To make it suit that all-important end.
Some people read, as I have often thought, To teach the Bible instead of being taught!
And some there are who read it out of spite; I fear there are but few who read it right.
So many people in these latter days, Have read teh Bible in so many ways,
That few can tell which system is the best, For every part conradicts the rest.
But read it prayerfully and you will see, Although men conradict, God’s words agree:
For what the early Bible prophets wrote, We find that Christ and His Apostles quote!
So trust no creed that trembles to recall
What has been penend by one and verified by all.\
You are important people today!
Your are a Royal Priesthood!
You belong in the Holy Place!
This is where you are to function!
Take your place at the Table of Shewbread!
And live in the light, live in that flow of Holy Oil.
