TEXT: 1 Thes. 5: 23-24

This chap deals with the individuals life within the Body (Church)

The work that God wants (and needs) to do in each of us

I.  He who does the work upon you “..the very God of peace..

“VERY” - 846 auvto,j autos {ow-tos'}  •  1) himself, herself, themselves, itself 2) he, she, it 3)  the same •  

“GOD” - 2316 qeo,j theos {theh'-os}  •  1) a god or goddess, a general name of deities or  divinities 2) the Godhead, trinity 3) spoken of the only and true God

“PEACE” - 1515 eivrh,nh eirene {i-ray'-nay}  •  1) a state of national tranquillity 1a) exemption from  the rage and havoc of war 2) peace between  individuals, i.e. harmony, concord 3) security, safety,  prosperity, felicity, (because peace and harmony make  and keep things safe and prosperous) 4) of the  Messiah's peace 4a) the way that leads to peace  (salvation) 5) of Christianity, the tranquil state of a soul  assured of its salvation through Christ

II. The work He want to do in you  “..sanctify you wholly; “

“SANCTIFY” - 37 a`gia,zw hagiazo {hag-ee-ad'-zo}  •  1) to render or acknowledge, or to be venerable or  hallow 2) to separate from profane things and dedicate to God 2a) consecrate things to God 2b) dedicate  people to God 3) to purify 3a) to cleanse externally 3b)  to purify by expiation: free from the guilt of sin 3c) to  purify internally by renewing of the soul

“WHOLLY” - 3651 o`lotelh,j holoteles {hol-ot-el-ace'}  •  1) perfect, complete in all respects 

III.  The result of the work “and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless”

“PRESERVED” - 5083 thre,w tereo {tay-reh'-o}  •  1) to attend to carefully, take care of 1a) to guard 1b)  metaph. to keep, one in the state in which he is 1c) to  observe 1d) to reserve: to undergo something •

“BLAMELESS”  - 274 avme,mptwj amemptos {am-emp'-toce}  •  1) blameless, so that there is no cause for censure 

Blameless preservation needs to deal with the trinity of man

“SPIRIT” - 4151 pneu/ma pneuma {pnyoo'-mah}  •  1) a movement of air (a gentle blast 1a) of the wind,  hence the wind itself 1b) breath of nostrils or mouth 2)  the spirit, i.e. the vital principal by which the body is  animated 2a) the rational spirit, the power by which the  human being feels, thinks, decides 2b) the soul 3) a  spirit, i.e. a simple essence, devoid of all or at least all  grosser matter, and possessed of the power of  knowing, desiring, deciding, and acting 3a) a life giving  spirit 3b) a human soul that has left the body 3c) a  spirit higher than man but lower than God, i.e. an angel of God  4a) God's power and agency distinguishable in thought  from his essence in itself considered 5) the efficient source of any power,  affection, emotion, desire, etc. 

“SOUL” - 5590 yuch, psuche {psoo-khay'}  •  1) breath 1a) the breath of life 1b) the vital force  which animates the body and shows itself in breathing  1a) that in which  there is life 1c) a living being, a living soul 2) the seat of the feelings, desires, affections,  aversions (our heart, soul etc.) 2a) the (human) soul in  so far as it is constituted that by the right use of the  aids offered it by God it can attain its highest end and  secure eternal blessedness, the soul regarded as a  moral being designed for everlasting life 2b) the soul as  an essence which differs from the body and is not  dissolved by death (distinguished from other parts of  the body) 

“BODY” - 4983 sw/ma soma {so'-mah}  •  1) the body both of men or animals 1a) the living body

IV. The reason for the work  “unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

COMING - 3952 parousi,a parousia {par-oo-see'-ah}  •  1) presence 2) the coming, arrival, advent 2a) the  future visible return from heaven of Jesus, to raise the  dead, hold the last judgment, and set up formally and  gloriously the kingdom of God 

V.  The work will not fail! “5:24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.”
