God is preparing His people for the Day of the Lord. Hearts turning back to the Lord must be hearts of persevering faith, acting according to the Word of God. In concern for our children, we remain in loving faithfulness to our marriage vows. We persevere through time, disillusionment, continuing in the process of growing in faith. How seriously are we involved in the purifying process of faith as we await the Day of the Lord?

Malachi was written during the post-exilic period before Ezra and Nehemiah. Malachi's message is to prepare for the Day of the Lord, and this preparatory work is still going on today. Elijah's (John the Baptist's) message of turning the hearts of fathers to their children and children to their fathers works together with the message of the good news of Jesus Christ. Remembering the message of John helps us seek to live a righteous life in Christ until He returns.

Hearts turned to the Lord are committed to incorruptible instruction. We all need to be taught, with guarded Scripture. In His covenant, God gave life and peace, while the priests were to give Him fear, awe, and truthful instruction. The spineless priests' teaching became whatever the people wanted to hear. Even today false teachers become despised and abased. All of us have a role in restoring and securing true instruction, so that the lost will be prepared for the Day of the Lord.

We all face difficult things in life that can keep us up at night. All these things are temporary, only our eternal destiny is permanent. Joel chapter 2 looks at an invasion and exile and how much more serious the Day of the Lord will be.

Introduction We sing the chorus “This is the Day that the Lord has Made” often in our churches today as a call of worship. In it, we treat “this” as though it referred to today, that God has made this day as He makes every day special. I do not dissent to this as we should always see each day as a gift…
