Similar to the allegory in Genesis, the parable of the barren fig tree in Luke 13 depicts a vineyard. We are calling this parable The Unfinished Parable. In this parable, the land owner is disappointed that the fig tree is not bearing fruit and wants it to be removed. The gardener pleads with the land owner to give it one more year and he will dig around it and fertilize it. We are a fruit tree in the vineyard and we are expected to produce fruit. If we do not bear fruit and become useful to the land owner, we will have to be removed to make room for a tree that WILL bear fruit. The parable ends just shy of a conclusion because the ending is not written yet - WE are writing the ending with our lives, one day at a time. Will we say in the garden? Listen and follow along with the points as we dig in to this parable in detail and break down the analogies that relate to our lives.
