Tending the Garden - Pastor Sven Frantzen 2023-06-03
Theme Text: Genesis 1:28 NKJV
Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
It is spring time and we are all looking to a great season of growing plants in our garden. Whether it is fruits, berries, or just beautiful plants, we are excited about tending our gardens.
God has called us from the very beginning to tend the garden. He said this in Genesis 1:28: “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it:”
But there is another garden that God wants us to tend; the garden of the Kingdom of God. God asks us to carry fruit worthy of repentance. This sermon highlights how you can help grow the fruits in the Kingdom of God.

First Fruit

A portion is a chunck of something. When it comes to our first fruit offering God does not require us to give the whole but a portion that we have purposed in our hearts to give unto him. When you give the portion in faith unto God he will take it and bless everything that you have and your family.

Similar to the allegory in Genesis, the parable of the barren fig tree in Luke 13 depicts a vineyard. We are calling this parable The Unfinished Parable. In this parable, the land owner is disappointed that the fig tree is not bearing fruit and wants it to be removed. The gardener pleads with the land owner to give it one more year and he will dig around it and fertilize it. We are a fruit tree in the vineyard and we are expected to produce fruit. If we do not bear fruit and become useful to the land owner, we will have to be removed to make room for a tree that WILL bear fruit. The parable ends just shy of a conclusion because the ending is not written yet - WE are writing the ending with our lives, one day at a time. Will we say in the garden? Listen and follow along with the points as we dig in to this parable in detail and break down the analogies that relate to our lives.

The fruitful life is one where we abide in Christ, it is not perfection but a life of growth as we rely on God to transform us.

Today, AHF was honored to receive a message about how love disciples from our very own Lisa Kindervatter. Did You know that Agape House Fellowship is named after a form of love? Agape is a selfless, unconditional, and persistent type of love. This divine love sees you exactly where you are, and directs you towards where you will be. Hebrews 12:6 tells us that love also pushes us to grow through discipline! God allows discipline to shape us in His likeness because He knows the plans He has for us. Though discipline is demanding, God promises the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who are trained by it. We encourage you to listen to Lisa's sermon here.
