Pastor Glenn • Grace United Family Church • Sermon • • 101 views • 50:49
"So many roads to follow, He said 'there's one'. So many make believers, He said, 'I've come'", so says a songwriter several years back. We really have to decide, whether to walk in the light of God's amazing grace, or to be stuck in a maze of our own doing, holding to misunderstandings and misapplications of Scripture. Misunderstandings like the "carnal Christian" teaching. In this passage, 1 Corinthians 3:5-23, Paul lays out truth but many have misunderstood and misapplied it, to their own hurt and to the hurt of many others. What are these misunderstandings and misapplications? Come with the Grace United crew as we further explore our way out of the maze of mere spirituality by avoiding 3 more dead ends as found in this passage.

But incest with their "father's wife"? Back in "the day" this was looked on as unthinkable, even among those living in the culture known for rampant sexual immorality. How to handle it? And how are Christians supposed to handle sin in non-Christian culture anyway? Come with the Grace United crew as we seek to discover what a wordly church is like and how to avoid trying to make the world "churchy".

Baptism is a sign of “newness of life”, a call to a transformation in holiness. What happens when the “coal” touches your lips, in real life. New creation.
In Jesus, God’s holiness comes as an invitation. In Jesus, holiness is no longer corrupted by the unholy (as described in the priestly context of ritual purity)- but rather is in itself an invitation to a transformation in holiness. Baptism is a sacrament that expresses this holiness as a cleansing stream that flows from God’s heart.
