In Mark 9, we see a second endorsement of Christ as the Messenger of God. We see Christ’s miraculous ministry taking place in private. The signs of the end times are also discussed with consideration of who the messanger of Christ is as it relates to Malachi chapter 3 and 4. We also see the desire for the disciples to consider who will be first in the kingdom of heaven.

As we finish Mark 9, again the question is raised about who will be considered first in the Kingdom of Heaven and we see yet for the second time that Christ tells His disciples that we will suffer much at the hand of the religious authority and die. In chapter 10 of Mark, we encounter questions being raised about what constitutes proper divorce, and under what conditions can marriage be made void. The Master continues to show His wisdom and teach His disciples the way of the Lord.

In Mark 9 we see a second confirmation of Jesus Christ as God’s Holy messenger. Additionally, we read about the disciples encountering those who are not disciples of Christ casting out demons with Jesus’ name. We learn about the importance of not causing others to fall into sin and how it would be better for us to cut off a limb than to allow the persistance of sin. The question of the legality of divorce arises in chapter 10, and continues on to the disciples questioning who shall be first among them when the kingdom of heaven arrives through Messiah. They also have their eschatology challenged by Christ predicting His death a third time.

Mark 7-9: Continuing in the study of the Gospel of Mark, escatological beliefs of Peter and the disciples are put to the test as Christ reveals that he must die and be raised from the dead three days after. Additionally, religious community members request more miraculous signs from Christ as he feeds the five thousand and then again the four thousand. We see Christ’s miraculous ministry taking place in private, and Christ’s transfiguration. The signs of the end times are also discussed with consideration of who the messanger of Christ is as it relates to Malachi chapter 3 and 4.
