Persecution, opposition, and suffering—just the words themselves make many a modern followers of Jesus uncomfortable. But, should they? Listen in to this second part of our exposition of Philippians 1:27–30 to learn what role these things play in our ordinary allegiance to the gospel.

John 15:18-25 Jesus does not say that the path with him will be with out trouble. We can't be one with the world and one with Jesus. We have to choose. Will you be silenced? Or will you stand for Jesus and be faithful to him?

No compromise, no negotiation, no seeking middle ground. Standing firm and obeying God rather than man.

Luke 5:33-6:11 Looking at three accounts we see the new is better than the old. Understanding Christ is the final authority. Putting aside our preferences and our traditions, we follow Christ's example.

Theme: What do we, as Christians, do when we face opposition to the Gospel? This passage is teaching us that there is no need to panic because Christians have the full sovereignty of God. The peace of God lets us rest in his truth and there is one just cause which Jesus has already fought for, in the cross. Our God is always in control, even when we are not present.

It is very important for the church to answer the question of how Christians should react to the opposition we face. Rather than retreat in fear, repent in shame, or respond in kind, the faithful will re-engage with boldness: operating with assurance and confidence in the truth of what we believe.

Have you given up the fight? To build you must have a will to fight, you must have something worth fighting for. In this comedy of events that takes place while trying to stop the Apostles preaching the Gospel we are reminded that the Gospel can't be stopped and so we should never stop proclaiming the Gospel.

Despite the opposition and hostility that come, Jesus, the Son of God and the Christ, must be preached to bring salvation to those whom God is drawing to himself. Only through direct engagement with Him is sinful man brought to repentance and faith.
