In the worst of times, we know in Christ that we can have confidence that we are tied to safety. This text explains exactly how to translate that assurance from our head to our heart.

Ruth 2:1-13

Finding a safe place in God.

God chose Abraham to be the one through whom God began the process of redemption and restoration of the intimate fellowship between God and man that broke down at the Garden of Eden. This was why God referred to Himself as the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob at the burning bush.

Here the Psalmist is encouraging us to dwell in the secret place of the Most High or in other words to hide in God. We can do either one of these two things; hide from God or allow ourselves to be hidden in God. To be hidden in God is the safest place anyone can be in, for there the enemy loses his power, and no darkness, sickness or ill can befall us.

The Almighty God is a God of love. If we will repent, turn to Him, and seek His face, He will surely encompass us with His great love. When the prodigal son returned back to his father, he did not question him or blame him but accepted him just as he was.

How is God present and working when safety isn't?

Theme: God is our safety. As church, we learn from David what is like when two kingdoms come in conflict and how we are able to live out the kingdom of grace. Friends, work, family, and authorities can all be helpful to turn to, but they can never give us ultimate safety like Jesus does in His Kingdom.

Far different from the world's definition, the true meaning of meekness may surprise you. Here we'll trace how it flows from the first 2 Beatitudes, bringing about safety, and flows into the following 5 Beatitudes, bringing about utility and fidelity. God made us his own in order to do amazing things, and meekness plays a vital role in that.
