Pentecost
Glenn • Grace United Family Church • Sermon • • 76 views • 48:52
There is far more to Pentecost than meets the eye--or the ear. As we remember, one of the "presents" the Lord gave to the church on her birthday was the Holy Spirit poured out on the Lord's disciples. "They spoke in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance." A birthday celebration--but vastly more important is what God has to say to the church of Jesus regarding spiritual warfare. Exactly how does a "birthday party" and spiritual warfare play themselves out? Come with the Grace United crew as we discover the Lord's marching orders for his church in waging true spiritual warfare.

In Genesis 15 God promises Abraham (and Sarah by association) that he would have a child and more descendents than stars in the sky. However, ten years later when Sarah still hadn't become pregnant she took matters into her own hands. She gave her slave, Hagar, to Abraham to bear him a child. Which Hagar did. But that action created a lot of strive and conflict between Sarah and Hagar, and Sarah and Abraham. We'll talk about patience and trust, and what happens when we try and accomplish the promises of God by our own timetables and hands.

The Big "C" is a dreaded word in our world. "C" is painful. Surgery is almost always needed to cut the cancer out. But there is a big "C" in the Scripture as well. Circumcision. Circumcision is commanded for . . . all God's people. "But" we might say, "how can circumcision be commanded for all of God's people? Isn't it supposed to be for males only? Well, not exactly, although males in Israel are commanded to get the Big "C". What is God after? What exactly is circumcision for anyway? Come with the Grace United crew as we explore this all important issue of circumcision and what it means for ALL of God's people, Old Covenant or New Covenant saints.

It is important for us to know the blessings and promises of the covenant we have entered into when we trust in Jesus Christ for our salvation. One way to understand the New Covenant is to compare it to the Abrahamic Covenant.

The Life of Abraham

Introduction In the last lesson, we saw a serious breach of faith in Abraham. He had failed to trust in Yahweh to protect him among the inhabitants of Gerar and rather trusted in his own wisdom. Had not the LORD intervened as his covenant partner and promise maker and remained faithful to the covenant…

Introduction Last week we learned of the terrible destruction of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah for their gross wickedness. From the destruction, the LORD graciously delivered Lot and his two daughters. The tragedy was compounded when Lot was too afraid to go to the small town or Zoar he had bargained…

Introduction In the last chapter the LORD promised Abraham what humans even today would consider impossible. Sarah was going to be a mother of a son named Isaac in twelve months. Abraham laughed at the idea, but the LORD told him it would be so. To remind Abraham that he laughed, the LORD said the boy's…

Introduction In the last lesson, Abram asked the LORD for a pledge of his promise of the land. The answer he had gotten seems discouraging, especially for one whose worldview does not extend past this life. For someone with a “Live your best life now” it was no promise at all. Abram would never have…

Abraham left his relatives in the east and headed for Canaan. He knew only this: God said go and God promised blessings, including lots of kids. The hitch: Abraham was old – 75 – and his wife couldn’t have kids. But, he went. Time passed. God blessed Abraham, and later said to him again: “I will make…
