Text: Matthew 21:1-17 Each year we celebrate the Triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem — as we should. But we tend to limit Jesus’ triumphant entry to Him riding into Jerusalem on a donkey. But here in Matthew we see three other indicators of Jesus’ triumph. Palm Sunday is MORE than a triumphant entry…

Nehemiah
Pastor Josh Monda • FBC Washington • Sermon • • 86 views • 51:51
So far, Nehemiah in the rebuilding of this wall has had to stand up to the violent threats of the enemy in chapter 5. Then in chapter 5, he had to deal with internal conflict between the wealthy Jews and the poor Jews. He has been tested as a leader. The wall is almost done, and the breaches have been repaired, the wall is complete except for the door in the gates. The enemy does not give up, and here in chapter 6, he hits again with four types of opposition: intrigue, innuendo, intimidation, and infiltration. In the first three, Satan moves, and Nehemiah responds, and the last one Nehemiah’s moves, and Satan responds, so let's learn how to triumph over opposition.

In this Part 3 sermon, we see the early church as a whole experiencing the Tragedy & Triumph dynamic that was portrayed so powerfully in the life of Stephen. Through the ferocity of persecution, the faithfulness of the believers, and the fruit of this combination, God builds his church in and through his people.

In the example of Christ, we see his faithfulness leading to victory through defeat, and Jesus made it clear that this is the path all who would follow him must also take. While this is one of the least embraced aspects of the Christian faith and life, Stephen’s example reminds us how central and powerful it truly is.

Theme: How we sense God through suffering outside of our control. When a person suffers, they suffer alone and long-term suffering can lead to deep loneliness. No believer can be as ultimately alone as Job was because the cross of God leads us thru pain. Jesus has been there, he will take us by the hand and lead us, and we can share in the glory of his suffering together. We are never abandoned when we are in Christ. Tragedy turns to triumph in the resurrection of Jesus.

By Pastor Glenn Pease Martin Luther one day sat down determined to try and understand the cry of Christ from the cross. He meditated for a long time, and went without food or drink, and little movement. Finally, he broke his silence with a cry of amazement, "God forsaken of God, who can understand that?"…

Introduction – Some discouraged soul wrote the following limerick: God’s plan made a hopeful beginning, But man spoiled his chances by sinning. We trust that the story Will end in God’s glory, But, at present, the other side’s winning. Sure seems that way, doesn’t it? But I have good news this morning.…

INTRODUCTION This psalm contains one of the great Old Testament portrayals of the Gospel. Along with Isaiah 53, we learn here that the death of Christ for the sins of the world was no afterthought. The Lamb of God was indeed slain from before the foundations of the world. THE TEXTS 1 My God, my God,…

Introduction Review of last week: Much of 1 John discusses the subject of love. However, last week we looked at the kind of love that is not honoring to God; rather it is a love that He hates. The apostle John says, "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world,…
