Pride and sinfulness stems from walking in worldly ways, thinking in worldly ways, and not living according to the wisdom and Spirit of Christ. Let us boast only in the Lord, not in ourselves or anything else, even our church.

Judges 19 ©Copyright August 19, 2018 by Bruce Goettsche There are some events you read about in the paper and watch on the news that are so disgusting you can barely take it in. In these verses, James tells us that what causes fights and quarrels among us is that sinful desire in one or more of God's people is leading them into war with others among God's people. It is very hard to accept because it would mean that there is, in the midst of God's people, an active war being waged against God. As children of God, there is no reason that fighting and quarreling should ever go on among us. Let us follow his word into the fullness of unity that he desires for us.

The name Pontius Pilate is one of the most notorious names in history. If his name was announced at a baseball game, the crowd would "boo". Pilate is usually viewed as the great villain in the story of our Savior's death. However, I'm afraid that by dismissing Pilate so quickly we may miss the lessons…

James 4:1-3 – 1 What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you? 2 You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them.…

“In the world but not of the world” is a formula you will commonly hear expressed that characterizes the Christian’s relationship to the world. The implication is that Christians are to live differently than those who do not profess Christ as Savior. To be in the world and of the world is to be worldly.…

Worldliness–Is it in You? John Stott, that great Scottish preacher asked a very sobering question to the church of Jesus Christ some time ago: You know what your own country is like. INTRODUCTION: As we seek to live our lives as faithful Christians, informed by the Word of God, we soon discover that it is not a simple process. It is not as though the Spirit gave us a rule book, in outline form, fully indexed. He gave us laws, principles, stories, and parables, strewn across various…
