This concept of slavery has permeated Paul’s answer to the question presented in verse 15, asking “Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace?” And yet, this concept of being a “slave to righteousness” is not popular in today’s Christian thinking. But is it right?

Paul is providing us the principle which will help us understand why it is that the idea of us sinning because we are not under law but under grace is so very abhorrent.

The most immediate idea we come to in reading this passage, is that the master determines the service. Paul is not simply writing theoretically, but his desire is that our Christianity be real, that our belief in Christ Jesus be lived out in our lives!
