Human government was first instituted by God in Genesis 9:6 . Coming out of the Ark, God instructed Noah that humans were given authority to carry out His purpose among all humans. However, when leaders serve themselves or only part of their constituents, Politics goes bad. Peer pressure is not only…

Not Much About Palm Sunday Today That’s because it puts things out of sequence for the preaching points I have been sharing with you from the Gospel of John since February 13. I began at the end of the Seder meal that was Jesus’ last supper. To start, we looked at the new commandment that Jesus gave…

There are some many voices in our world today. Every voice carries with it a different opinion or belief. It's hard to know which voice holds the truth. Today, as we unpack the conversation between Jesus and Pontius Pilate, we find out that Christ alone holds the voice of truth.

The Old Rugged Cross
Mitch Marlowe • Sermon • • 4 views
Introduction The third verse of the Hymn The Old Rugged Cross, has some pretty significant theology in it. In the old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine, A wondrous beauty I see; For ‘twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died To pardon and sanctify me. The phrase “stained with blood divine”…

John 18:36-38 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.” Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I…

Most Jews would have considered the Galileans who were slaughtered at the Temple, martyrs. Why does Jesus call them sinners?

The people wanted Barabbas rather than Jesus. Barabbas seemed to have been a man who claimed to be Messiah and committed insurrection against Rome in which he committed murder and was sentenced to be crucified, perhaps with the other two who were hung with Jesus. His name being translated is "Son of the Father." His first name may have been Yeshua (Jesus" as well. This is the Messiah they wanted, one who conformed to public opinion rather than the Lord who calls us to conform to Him. They chose a plastic Jesus.

Copyright December 31, 2023 by Rev. Bruce Goettsche This morning we return to the Gospel of Mark after our Christmas series. Admittedly, this seems like an abrupt change from celebrating the birth of Jesus and then immediately jumping to His “trial” before Pilate. However, the only way to see the true…

PRAY INTRO: Truth is not pliable. Truth is not simply relative to your perspective. Truth is truth. Truth is not something to be twisted for your own purposes. Similarly, justice is not merely a tool to be wielded in the hands of those in political power. Justice is a righteous judgment based on what…

Who is responsible for Jesus’ death? John Stott asks a similar question in his book The Cross of Christ, the second chapter titled “Why Did Christ Die?”[1] In this message I follow Stott’s general outline. Who is responsible for Jesus’ death? Well, the answer will likely depend on who answers. For instance,…

Isaiah would depict in such a detailed way what our Savior would go through. The prophets would be looking ahead to a promised Messiah as they declared the Promised One… Tonight we remember. This is not a service of celebration, rather it is for contemplation, reflection, and remembering what our sin…

The Setup It’s the early hours of the morning. The last supper, the first communion, was the night before. Jesus was betrayed, as He said He would be. Denied, as He said He would be. PRESENTATION: The nature of Christ’s Kingdom In today’s Gospel, as Our Lord stands before Pilate, He is questioned about whether He is a King.
