1 Corinthians 14:20–25 (ESV) Brothers, do not be children in your thinking. Be infants in evil, but in your thinking be mature. In the Law it is written, “By people of strange tongues and by the lips of foreigners will I speak to this people, and even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord.”…

Intro: These passages regarding marriage in 1 Corinthians are so personal to me. If you don’t know, my mom abandoned my dad when I was 8 months old. When I came to maturity as a young person, I looked beyond my own selfish hurt and mourned for my dad. I cannot imagine the hurt he felt, with a young son…

1 Peter 3:1-7 You don’t need examples, illustrations, news headlines, or statistics to know that it’s not easy to build a biblical, God-honoring home. And as challenging as being faithful Christians in the world at large and on the job may be, it may be even more challenging to be a faithful Christian…

Kids: “I didn’t mean to.” Will never hold up in a court of law. Neither will good intentions hold up in God’s court room proceedings. 13 For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. Those who have good intentions only of doing the…

In the New Testament era, the true gift of tongues was the ability to speak a language which was unknown to the speaker but known to someone present. God had a very definite purpose in it, which we’ll see later on in this message, but in the Corinthian assembly, they had taken the true gift and had twisted…

Pursue love and desire spiritual gifts, and especially that you may prophesy. For the person who speaks in a tongue is not speaking to people but to God, since no one understands him; he speaks mysteries in the Spirit. On the other hand, the person who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening,…

Last weekend we began this two-part series on What is the Church? The church is not a physical building, but a group of believers or a spiritual body, and Christ is the head of the body or church. Does this sound familiar: “"If you're in a dispute with another party and you can't seem to work things out, don't take the law into your own hands; you take 'em to court," This was the tagline stated by the host of the courtroom reality show in the 80-90’s called the People’s Court. 5 Weeks of Christmas
Matt Haywood • Bethlehem Baptist Church • Sermon • • 46 views • 35:24
We are going to begin our Christmas series by looking at a figure in the Christmas story that is a little mysterious. We are going to look at Joseph this morning and the decision that he had to make.
Now, Joseph is famous. he’s the earthly father of Jesus and he’s featured in all of our nativity sets, but we really don’t know much about him. In fact, did you know that we really don’t know for sure if he was a carpenter, though he probably was! We assume he was because Jesus was, but the text doesn’t actually say this. We only know that he was poor and of the lineage of David. He was a righteous man as we will see, but that is about all we know.
However, we do know he had a tough job raising the Son of God. You talk about high pressure. He also had a tough decision to make. Some of you here may have some tough decisions going on in your life, and I hope Joseph can be an example to you this morning of how to follow God’s will for your life.
