Intentional Church Culture

The local Church is a community within the local community of Kingaroy. We also belong to a larger community ie. Queensland and the national community of Australia. At these larger levels we also belong to state and national Church communities which are the Australian Christian Churches. What is the special purpose that the local Church has within the community?

The purpose of the Church

To build a Faith Community - People who gather together with one cause, ‘Faith in God’

The purpose of the Church

Process of Socialisation

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
The New International Version. (2011). (). Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan.
Discipleship
A FAITH COMMUNITY
What is the process of discipleship?
What is the process of discipleship?
A decision to become a follower of Jesus (Transformational and informational)
A decision to become like Jesus
A decision to particpate (Koinonia) in Jesus’ family as his child
A decision to make the mission of Jesus your personal purpose and cause (to seek and save)

the Community of Faith - The community of Faith has discipleship at it’s core. This is very different from having social work/ good works as it’s chief concern. Real issues exist within the social fabric of each community, these issues can be reduced by meeting the underlying need ie. need for food/shelter/basic medical services. However whether it acknowledges it or not our community has a very real spiritual need. Union with God and union with each other, the biblical word is Koinonia.

How do we develop a culture of Faith?

Process of Socialisation

Enculturation is the process by which people learn the requirements of their surrounding culture and acquire values and behaviours appropriate or necessary in that culture.[1] As part of this process, the influences that limit, direct, or shape the individual (whether deliberately or not) include parents, other adults, and peers. If successful, enculturation results in competence in the language, values, and rituals of the culture.

Acculturation is the process of cultural change and psychological change that results following meeting between cultures.[1]The effects of acculturation can be seen at multiple levels in both interacting cultures. Acculturation is a direct change of one's culture through dominance over another's culture through either military or political conquest.

In Christianity inculturation is the adaptation of the way Church teachings are presented to non-Christian cultures and, in turn, the influence of those cultures on the evolution of these teachings. This is a term that is generally used by Roman Catholics, whereas Protestants tend to use the term "contextual theology."

We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4 We write this to make our joy complete.
