What is Baptism?

We define this word as total submersion in water.
Why do we Baptize?
We are commanded by Jesus Himself.
Matthew 28:19–20 ESV
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Jesus was Baptized this way Himself.
Matthew 3:13–17 ESV
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him. John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
Jesus commanded this type of Baptisim of us as well.
Peter commanded it as well in acts 2 38
Acts 2:38 ESV
And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:41 ESV
So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.
Acts 8:12 ESV
But when they believed Philip as he preached good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
Acts 8
Acts 8:38 ESV
And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him.
Acts 9:18 ESV
And immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he rose and was baptized;
Acts 10:48 ESV
And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to remain for some days.
Who do we baptize?
Who do we not Baptize?
gives us this answer as clear as I know anywhere in scripture.
Acts 2:38 ESV
And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Repent...... This comes first… Just as John the Baptist proclaimed.
Matthew 3:2 ESV
“Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Repent Jesus first message that He proclaimed.
Matthew 4:17 ESV
From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Matthew 4:7 ESV
Jesus said to him, “Again it is written, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’ ”
M
We see a coomon word in these verses, Repent.
What does Repent mean?
What does It not mean?
Its dosent mean to ask for forgivness, it dosent mean to confess our sins, It dosent mean to pray. Not directly.
It means to Change ones mind yeailding a change of direction.
To Change ones mind to stop following the World and to Start following Jesus!
Peter explained it very well and very plainly in
Peter preached to the group of people and the bible says that they were cut to their heart and they asked what they should do.
Peter responeded to them with this.
8
Acts 2:38 ESV
And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Peter is saying this,
You know that man Jesus whom you cricified and put on the cross, that man Jesus who you killed. That man Jesus who died.
WEll That Man Jesus was the Christ!
You need to change your mind as to who He is!!!
Once they had changed their minds as to Who Jesus was and Is they knew He was the Christ, Savior of the world.
Now they beleived in Him and followed Him.
Repentance has taken place.
Now be baptized!!
Who do we Baptise?
Everyone who has Repented of their sin and placed the faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Who do we not Baptize?
angain I refer you back to
Repent, and be baptized, everyone of you in the Name of Jesus Christ.
We dont baptize anyone who dosent repent.
How can we know if they have repented.
Well we know they havent if they dont even understand the word.
Small children, babies.
We dont baptize babies of small childrem because they dont yet understand repent.
If one dosent understand a word how can they possibly obey it?
6-
Romans 6:6–7 ESV
We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin.
Romans 6:6–11 ESV
We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
these verses show us that a beleiver has died to the old life of sin and has been raised to walk in a different life.
The beleiver is a new creature.
2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
The Key to living a Christian Life?
Gal
Galatians 2:20 ESV
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Dont get trapped to satans biggest lie of all of being deceived.
Being a Christian is not about putting all of your focus on what you do and what you dont do.
Its about putting your focus al on Jesus Christ!
When you start focusing on what you do and dont do you arent focusing on Him, Your Lord and Savior.
Important here, Jesus is your Lord .. Lord meaning Master. He has bought you and paid for your salvation with His Own Blood. He owns you. This makes Him Master.
as well as you Savior.
when ones focus on Jesus, everything about you changes! Everything!!!
Jesus has never touched any man or woman and left them the same way He found them!
Romans 6:8 ESV
Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.
through this verse we know, we know that we know that one day we will live with him!!
The hope we will live with Him is gone, we KNOW that one day we will live wih Him!!!
When we are saved we are gaurenteed a home in heaven.
1 Thessalonians 4:13–17 ESV
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.

Romans 6:9–10 ESV
We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God.
Revelation 1:18 ESV
and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.
Hebrews 2:14 ESV
Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,
Heb 2
Jesus one death was eternally sufficient for our sins. Vers 10
Romans 6:10 ESV
For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God.
Baptisim is a call to commitment.
Romans 6:11–14 ESV
So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
Dont allow sin to have dominion over you.
FOCUS ON JESUS!!
How do I forgive something or someone.
Pray for them.... Pray for them>>>> Pray for them!!!!!!
I once had a brother in Christ who struggled with lust and would not go to public places except very late at night. I asked why and he said ladies dress way to little and the eye wonders way to much and this makes me weak.
The pool and beach were off limits to this man by his own rules.
I said the answer is saimle.
everytime you see a female like this imediatly begin to pray for her, pray thet she will kmow Jesus as Lord and savior!
Pray Gods blessing over her.
He did this and he found this struggle he previously had waas gone!!
Focus on Jesus and everything changes in your life!
Remember these words,
We are still in this world, we live in a world that is as corrupt as it can get!
Either the world will effect us or we can effecct the world.
I couldnt hang with the group of people i use to hang with because we had two different agendas.
I didnt want to hear the things they were doing and they didnt want to hear the things I was doing either.
I would not give in. I wanted to talk about Jesus, they werent interested so we parted ways.
The Bible tells us not to be un=equally yoked.
WE Live for Jesus.
Colossians 3:5–10 ESV
Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.
Focus on Jesus.
Romans 12:1–2 ESV
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Focus on Jesus
Paptisim is a beautiful Picture.
It is Powerful!
Its Christ Living His Life through You!
Acts 16:33 ESV
And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family.
What is the picture of Baptisim?
Its pictures the death and resurrection Of Christ.
Baptisim identfies us with Jesus Christ.
When we are Baptized we are openly expressing our Faith in the substitionary death that Jesus died for us on the cross.
2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Romans 6:1–3 ESV
What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
Romans 6:1–3 ESV
What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
1
Romans 6:4–5 ESV
We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.
in verse 5 we are indentified as being united with Him in a death like His,
good news!!
we shall certinally be united with Him in a resuttection like His!
