"It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: To show forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night."
Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of year. It begins the holiday season of preparing for Christmas. The merchants gear up for a busy season of sales and making money. People in general look forward to a big meal where they eat to much and visit with family and friends. Then they start worrying where the money is going to come from to buy all the gifts for Christmas. Thanksgiving is one time of the year that some people, not all unfortunately, stop and give thanks to God for the many blessings they have received throughout the year. We, as Christians, should be giving thanks all year long, but this one day we are to focus in on the things that come to mind that our Lord has given us. Being thankful to a gracious, forgiving God should be at the top of our list. Thankful for Jesus, our Savior, for the love he displayed by giving His life for our sins. Thankful to a forgiving, patient Lord. Who puts up with us, imperfect people and forgives when we ask and repent.

Give thanks to our All Loving, Forgiving Lord!!!!!
Thankful to a forgiving, patient Lord. Who puts up with us, imperfect people and forgives when we ask and repent.
I have used this illustration before, but it is so true.
Martin Luther once said that “The greater God’s gifts and works, the less they are regarded.”
A hungry man is more thankful for his morsel than a rich man for his overflowing table. A lonely woman in a nursing home will appreciate a visit more than a popular woman with a party thrown in her honor.

Our Scripture today is

; And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. 12 And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: 13 And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. 14 And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. 15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, 16 And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. 17 And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? 18 There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. 19 And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.

Introduction: America has a lot to be thankful for! We live in the greatest Country in the world. Most of us have plenty to eat and to spare, and we have the freedom to speak, worship, and express ourselves freely! But too often we are ungrateful for the things we have!

Introduction: America has a lot to be thankful for! We live in the greatest Country in the world. Most of us have plenty to eat and to spare, and we have the freedom to speak, worship, and express ourselves freely! But too often we are ungrateful for the things we have!

Matthew Henry said, "What a pity it is that this earth, which is so full of God's goodness, should be empty of His praises, and that of the multitudes that live upon His bounty, there are so few that live to His glory!"
Most of us are far healthier, far more comfortable and have far more opportunities and diversions available to us than 99 percent of all the people in other countries of the world. We live longer, eat better and travel farther than the richest and most blessed people in virtually every other generation in every land in history. We tend to forget this, just as we forget to enjoy fully the blessings of family, friendship, freedom, and faith. We sometimes fail to show gratitude for these things.
As we read our Scripture for today, let us look at our own life and give thanks to our Loving Lord and Savior.
; And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.
This Scripture begins with Jesus making His final trip to Jerusalem. He is on His way to die for us. This shows us, even though Jesus is on a final mission in obedience to God, He has the love and concern for people that He can stop and deal with needs. This group of 10 men consisted of both Jew and one Samaritan. As a rule, Jews will not associate with Samaritans at all, but misery loves company and all ten were outcasts. What difference does birth make if you are experiencing a living death? We have here men with a situation or need that they have no control over themselves. They could not heal themselves, nor could anyone they know help them. There was no earthly hope for them.
Have you ever been in a situation where you could see not way out. There were no remedies in sight and you knew no one to go to that could help.
But these men had hope, for Jesus was there, and they cried out for mercy. We have Jesus with us also, we have a merciful Lord that is always ready to hear us and heal if it is His will.
*****As I read the Scripture, the first think that I see is.....
I. Ten Desperate Men, with a desperate situation.
A. They had leprosy.
1. They were helpless to their own situation.
They were helpless to their own situation. Leprosy was a slow death with no help from man.
2. Leprosy was a slow death with no help from man.
A leper was an outcast, he was doomed to death from the disease. He was forced away from people and had to isolate himself from everyone that did not have the disease. Leprosy was the most feared disease of that time. These men had a sense of desperation. Imagine the anguish and heart-break of the leper, being completely cut off from family and friends and society. Imagine the emotional and mental pain.
***1st was Desperation; Next there was Humility....
Next there was Humility....
II. These men displayed Humility and Obedience.
A. They were humble in the presence of Jesus.
1. We should know who we are in relation to God,and stand with humility before an awesome God.
2. They recognized who they were and who Jesus was and acted accordingly.
B. They "stood afar off."
B. They "stood afar off."
1. They respected the law which demanded they stand at least six feet away from a person.
C. Every person must recognize his uncleanness in approaching Jesus. He must come in humility...
"Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up"
*****1st There was Desperation
).
***Next was Obedience & Humility
*****Then there was a plea for Help.....
III. They reached out to the One Who Could Help.
III. They reached out to the One Who Could Help.
A. These men knew they had a need and they brought the need to Jesus, the only One who could meet their need.
B. They cried out for mercy. They ask for physical healing. “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.”
“Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.”
15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
C. They were healed by faith. They obeyed and started to the Priest and saw they were healed.
The healing came after obedience.

15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

*****After healing we see both sides of the coin,
IV. We see Gratitude and Ingratitude: verses 15-19
A. Ten blessed with healing, nine unthankful.

15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

1. Nine didn’t return to thank Jesus.
2. Their thoughts were not on Jesus, the Healer. They were on themselves. It is not said in Scripture, but I guess the said, Wow, I can resume my life back at work, with my friends and family. After the Priest, I am heading home. This is great.
B. One returned Thankful and worshiping Jesus.
1. You would have expected all ten men to run to Jesus and thank Him for a new start in life, but only one did so—and he was not even a Jew. How grateful the men should have been. These 10 men had a great need, a difference of life and physical death. But the greater need is spiritual death.  Jesus was there to fill both needs.
2. All should have been thankful for the love that caused Him to pay attention to them and their need, and for the grace and power of God that brought about their healing.
3. How often do we take our blessings for granted and fail to thank the Lord?
Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, And for his wonderful works to the children of men!
And for his wonderful works to the children of men!
Too often we are content to enjoy the gift but we forget the Giver.
One did give thanks.
4. He glorified God immediately. He shouted with the loudest voice possible. He witnessed for God. God had cleansed him and he wanted all to know the great mercy and love of God.
5. He worshipped Jesus. Note that he fell down on his face at the feet of Jesus. This was both humility and recognition of the power of God in Christ, two essentials for true spiritual cleansing. The most rejected was the most thankful.
*****Something else to learn in this Samaritan meeting Jesus is.....
V. Gratitude and praise bring assurance to the heart.
A. Christ to speak to the human heart, giving assurance of acceptance and cleansing.
They give no thanks; they offer no praise. They go about their usual employments, to mingle in the scenes of pleasure and of sin as if nothing had occurred. Few, few of all who have been rescued from "threatening graves" feel their obligation to God, or ever express it.
"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost" .
How often do we take our blessings for granted and fail to thank the Lord? "Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!" ( , 15 , 21 , 31 ) Too often we are content to enjoy the gift but we forget the Giver. We are quick to pray but slow to praise. We forget how GREAT a gift SALVATION is. The sacrifice that was made for us on the Cross of Calvary.
"Your faith has made you whole"
).
The Samaritan's nine friends were declared clean by the priest, but he was declared saved by the Son of God! While it is wonderful to experience the miracle of physical healing, it is even more wonderful to experience the miracle of eternal salvation.
Conclusion: Every child of God should cultivate the grace of gratitude. It not only opens the heart to further blessings but glorifies and pleases the Father. God has blessed us so much. God has been so good to us that giving thanks shouldn't even be a question. It should just flow from us naturally. An unthankful heart is fertile ground for all kinds of sin.
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
