"It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: To show forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night."
Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of year.
It begins the holiday season of preparing for Christmas.
The merchants gear up for a busy season of sales and making money.
People in general look forward to a big meal where they eat to much and visit with family and friends.
Then they start worrying where the money is going to come from to buy all the gifts for Christmas.
Thanksgiving is one time of the year that some people, not all unfortunately, stop and give thanks to God for the many blessings they have received throughout the year.
We, as Christians, should be giving thanks all year long, but this one day we are to focus in on the things that come to mind that our Lord has given us.
Being thankful to a gracious, forgiving God should be at the top of our list.
Thankful for Jesus, our Savior, for the love he displayed by giving His life for our sins.
Thankful to a forgiving, patient Lord.
Who puts up with us, imperfect people and forgives when we ask and repent.

I have used this illustration before, but it is so true.
Martin Luther once said that “The greater God’s gifts and works, the less they are regarded.”
A hungry man is more thankful for his morsel than a rich man for his overflowing table.
A lonely woman in a nursing home will appreciate a visit more than a popular woman with a party thrown in her honor.
Our Scripture today is
; And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.
12 And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: 13 And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.
14 And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests.
And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.
15 And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, 16 And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.
17 And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed?
but where are the nine?
18 There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.
19 And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.
Introduction: America has a lot to be thankful for!
We live in the greatest Country in the world.
Most of us have plenty to eat and to spare, and we have the freedom to speak, worship, and express ourselves freely!
But too often we are ungrateful for the things we have!

Introduction: America has a lot to be thankful for!
We live in the greatest Country in the world.
Most of us have plenty to eat and to spare, and we have the freedom to speak, worship, and express ourselves freely!
But too often we are ungrateful for the things we have!
Matthew Henry said, "What a pity it is that this earth, which is so full of God's goodness, should be empty of His praises, and that of the multitudes that live upon His bounty, there are so few that live to His glory!"
Most of us are far healthier, far more comfortable and have far more opportunities and diversions available to us than 99 percent of all the people in other countries of the world.
We live longer, eat better and travel farther than the richest and most blessed people in virtually every other generation in every land in history.
We tend to forget this, just as we forget to enjoy fully the blessings of family, friendship, freedom, and faith.
We sometimes fail to show gratitude for these things.
As we read our Scripture for today, let us look at our own life and give thanks to our Loving Lord and Savior.
; And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.

This Scripture begins with Jesus making His final trip to Jerusalem.
He is on His way to die for us.
This shows us, even though Jesus is on a final mission in obedience to God, He has the love and concern for people that He can stop and deal with needs.
This group of 10 men consisted of both Jew and one Samaritan.
As a rule, Jews will not associate with Samaritans at all, but misery loves company and all ten were outcasts.
What difference does birth make if you are experiencing a living death?
We have here men with a situation or need that they have no control over themselves.
They could not heal themselves, nor could anyone they know help them.
There was no earthly hope for them.
Have you ever been in a situation where you could see not way out.
There were no remedies in sight and you knew no one to go to that could help.
But these men had hope, for Jesus was there, and they cried out for mercy.
We have Jesus with us also, we have a merciful Lord that is always ready to hear us and heal if it is His will.
*****As I read the Scripture, the first think that I see is.....
I.
Ten Desperate Men, with a desperate situation.
A. They had leprosy.
1.
They were helpless to their own situation.
They were helpless to their own situation.
Leprosy was a slow death with no help from man.
2. Leprosy was a slow death with no help from man.
A leper was an outcast, he was doomed to death from the disease.
He was forced away from people and had to isolate himself from everyone that did not have the disease.
Leprosy was the most feared disease of that time.
These men had a sense of desperation.
Imagine the anguish and heart-break of the leper, being completely cut off from family and friends and society.
Imagine the emotional and mental pain.
