Jesus is the Christ because:

1. Jesus Rose from the Dead (22-29)

Acts 2:22–29 NASB95
22 “Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with miracles and wonders and signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know— 23 this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death. 24 “But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power. 25 “For David says of Him, ‘I saw the Lord always in my presence; For He is at my right hand, so that I will not be shaken. 26 Therefore my heart was glad and my tongue exulted; Moreover my flesh also will live in hope; 27 Because You will not abandon my soul to Hades, Nor allow Your Holy One to undergo decay. 28 You have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of gladness with Your presence.’ 29 “Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
Nazarene - where Jesus started His ministry and the town which he was identified.
Miracles - deeds of power
Wonders - deeds of power that inspire awe.
Signs - deeds of power that inspire awe and point to a special meaning.
Isaiah 29:18–19 NASB95
18 On that day the deaf will hear words of a book, And out of their gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind will see. 19 The afflicted also will increase their gladness in the Lord, And the needy of mankind will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.
predetermined plan - God’s sovereign choice planned these events from eternity past. He was not surprised or caught off guard, He willed it Himself. God eternal plan is the best plan for the most good to be accomplished.
Foreknowledge - this must come after His predetermined plan. He foreknew because He predetermined. Not - He knew what would happen and what men would choose so he planned accordingly.
Personal responsibility - YOU nailed Jesus to the cross. Peter proves that Jesus is the Messiah and then hits them with the awful truth that the whole nation of Israel murdered their Messiah (maybe some individuals present cried out with the crowd “crucify Him!”)
Jesus is alive! Death could not hold Him because God said through David that the Messiah must live forever.
Psalm 16:8–11 NASB95
8 I have set the Lord continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. 9 Therefore my heart is glad and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will dwell securely. 10 For You will not abandon my soul to Sheol; Nor will You allow Your Holy One to undergo decay. 11 You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.
My heart is glad...
Hebrews 12:2 NASB95
2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
flesh will dwell securely - The Messiah’s heart (kidneys) and His body are alive and well.
David - “You WILL make known to me the path of life” yet Future
Peter - “You HAVE MADE known to me the way of life” past tense because it just happened.
The resurrection brings the fullness of joy and true godly pleasure forever. This is what we have to look forward to in heaven - joy and pleasure forever in Jesus. Start now!
Couldn’t be about David, must be about the Christ.

2. Jesus Ascended (30-36)

Acts 2:30–36 NASB95
30 “And so, because he was a prophet and knew that God had sworn to him with an oath to seat one of his descendants on his throne, 31 he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that He was neither abandoned to Hades, nor did His flesh suffer decay. 32 “This Jesus God raised up again, to which we are all witnesses. 33 “Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured forth this which you both see and hear. 34 “For it was not David who ascended into heaven, but he himself says: The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand, 35 Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.” ’ 36 “Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ—this Jesus whom you crucified.”
Psalm 110:1 NASB95
1 The Lord says to my Lord: “Sit at My right hand Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”
Enemies - who could be a greater enemy than those who murdered the Son of the Living God.
Footstool - kings sat elevated so that to bow before the king was literally to be at his feet.
Logical points:
The Spirit has been poured out on us as the OT predicted
Jesus performed miracles
You killed Jesus
Jesus rose from the dead as the OT predicted
Jesus ascended as the OT predicted
Jesus is the One responsible for Spirit descending
Jesus must be the Messiah
You are in big trouble!
