Kingdom Love Part 1

Titus 3:14 NKJV
14 And let our people also learn to maintain good works, to meet urgent needs, that they may not be unfruitful.
Mark 12:28–31 NKJV
28 Then one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, perceiving that He had answered them well, asked Him, “Which is the first commandment of all?” 29 Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is:Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. 31 And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
Mark 12:
God allows storms for us to have a more open heart to Him
The love of God and the love for God and love for others!
Expected love the scriptures has for one another
Love for those who are not part of the kingdom yet
If Jesus is not the Lord of their lives something or someone else is
God allows storms for us to have a more open heart to Him
Deut.
Deuteronomy 6 NKJV
1 “Now this is the commandment, and these are the statutes and judgments which the Lord your God has commanded to teach you, that you may observe them in the land which you are crossing over to possess, 2 that you may fear the Lord your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged. 3 Therefore hear, O Israel, and be careful to observe it, that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly as the Lord God of your fathers has promised you—‘a land flowing with milk and honey.’ 4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. 10 “So it shall be, when the Lord your God brings you into the land of which He swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give you large and beautiful cities which you did not build, 11 houses full of all good things, which you did not fill, hewn-out wells which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant—when you have eaten and are full— 12 then beware, lest you forget the Lord who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. 13 You shall fear the Lord your God and serve Him, and shall take oaths in His name. 14 You shall not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples who are all around you 15 (for the Lord your God is a jealous God among you), lest the anger of the Lord your God be aroused against you and destroy you from the face of the earth. 16 “You shall not tempt the Lord your God as you tempted Him in Massah. 17 You shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, His testimonies, and His statutes which He has commanded you. 18 And you shall do what is right and good in the sight of the Lord, that it may be well with you, and that you may go in and possess the good land of which the Lord swore to your fathers, 19 to cast out all your enemies from before you, as the Lord has spoken. 20 “When your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is the meaning of the testimonies, the statutes, and the judgments which the Lord our God has commanded you?’ 21 then you shall say to your son: ‘We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, and the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand; 22 and the Lord showed signs and wonders before our eyes, great and severe, against Egypt, Pharaoh, and all his household. 23 Then He brought us out from there, that He might bring us in, to give us the land of which He swore to our fathers. 24 And the Lord commanded us to observe all these statutes, to fear the Lord our God, for our good always, that He might preserve us alive, as it is this day. 25 Then it will be righteousness for us, if we are careful to observe all these commandments before the Lord our God, as He has commanded us.’
Jesus is asking do you believe this?
Everything you are needs to be devoted to a loving living God
Leviticus 19:18 NKJV
18 You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.
Levi.
Our love for God and love for others can not be separated
first 4 commandments are about our relationship with God
the last 6 commandments are about our relations with others
1 John 4:21 NKJV
21 And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.
Jesus adds a third part to all this, that is the standard of loving your neighbor = love them as you love yourself
Mark 12:32–33 NKJV
32 So the scribe said to Him, “Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth, for there is one God, and there is no other but He. 33 And to love Him with all the heart, with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is more than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
Mark 12:32
Lets learn something from this man:
Any eternal rewards that we will have has nothing to do with us but God working in us
Do we have boxes that we check off on our spiritual checklist like salvation is something we do
the physical is all a bridge to share the gospel and the hope of Jesus Christ
When we leave God out of the equation it is not good because God wants to be brought in and left out.
We need to be careful that taking care of creation is more important than worshipping the creator!
If you are having a hard time hearing this it is because “doing good has become better than doing God.
Jesus is confronting this line of thinking
Jesus
2 Corin. 5:14
2 Corinthians 5:14 NKJV
14 For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died;
Mark 12:34 NKJV
34 Now when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, He said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” But after that no one dared question Him.
Jesus was pleased with what this man said
You are starting to see God for who He is
He was not in the Kingdom but not far off
1. this was personal for this man
2. This man was recognizing that loving God was more important than what he was doing for God. We can do things for God with the wrong heart.
3.This man was listening and agreeing with Jesus
Those who will be in the kingdom will be those who agree with the King and allow Him to be on the throne of their heart
4. Jesus saw that he was being honest and authentic in front of his peers
Are we letting political pressure determine what I think and say
He was willing to break ranks for the truth
Truth that would cost him something was embraced
He was willing to take a risks for what Jesus was saying
1 John 4:16 NKJV
16 And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.
Our love is simply out of a response of His love
1 John
1 John 3:1 NKJV
1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.
psalms
Psalm 86:15 NKJV
15 But You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious, Longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth.
Gods love is bountiful
Lamentations 3:22 NKJV
22 Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not.
Gods love is steadfast and unwavering
John 15:13 NKJV
13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.
john
God’s love is the greatest love
Romans 5
Romans 5:8 NKJV
8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
His love is demonstrated
John 3:16 NKJV
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
God’s love is a giving sacrificial love
Galatians
Galatians 2:20 NKJV
20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
God’s love is unconditional
When you give your Son to those who will curse Him as well as those who will love Him that is unconditional love
Romans 8:
Romans 8:38–39 NKJV
38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
God’s love is far reaching
Go
1 John 4:19 NKJV
19 We love Him because He first loved us.
Ephesians 2:4–5 NKJV
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
Ephesians
God’s love is a force that transforms those who embrace it, it is not just a feeling
Jeremiah 31:3 NKJV
3 The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying: “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.
God’s love has no end it has no breaking point
1
1 John 4:19 NKJV
19 We love Him because He first loved us.
This is our reasonable response to His unconditional love for us
Romans 5:5 NKJV
5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Our hearts and lives are brimming over with that love of God
The love of God should permeate every part of my life
This love for the king and His kingdom will only endure if I have done my part in cultivating that love
Marriages that fall apart because of some circumstances is because they did not cultivate something in their marriages that was greater than that circumstances and that is love
God’s love is enduring, transforming, chasing love, sacrificial love, eternal that is a force
2 Peter 1 NKJV
1 Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: 2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. 10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; 11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 12 For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth. 13 Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you, 14 knowing that shortly I must put off my tent, just as our Lord Jesus Christ showed me. 15 Moreover I will be careful to ensure that you always have a reminder of these things after my decease. 16 For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 17 For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” 18 And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain. 19 And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; 20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, 21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

How this message should work out towards others
It must be embraced
It must be cultivated
It must be exercised towards others
And this is how it grows
His love will rule and reign if we let Him rule and reign and people will see that He is Lord of our Heart by His love ruling in our lives

Kingdom Love Part 2

(Luke 6)
Luke 6 NKJV
1 Now it happened on the second Sabbath after the first that He went through the grainfields. And His disciples plucked the heads of grain and ate them, rubbing them in their hands. 2 And some of the Pharisees said to them, “Why are you doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath?” 3 But Jesus answering them said, “Have you not even read this, what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: 4 how he went into the house of God, took and ate the showbread, and also gave some to those with him, which is not lawful for any but the priests to eat?” 5 And He said to them, “The Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.” 6 Now it happened on another Sabbath, also, that He entered the synagogue and taught. And a man was there whose right hand was withered. 7 So the scribes and Pharisees watched Him closely, whether He would heal on the Sabbath, that they might find an accusation against Him. 8 But He knew their thoughts, and said to the man who had the withered hand, “Arise and stand here.” And he arose and stood. 9 Then Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one thing: Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy?” 10 And when He had looked around at them all, He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he did so, and his hand was restored as whole as the other. 11 But they were filled with rage, and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus. 12 Now it came to pass in those days that He went out to the mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. 13 And when it was day, He called His disciples to Himself; and from them He chose twelve whom He also named apostles: 14 Simon, whom He also named Peter, and Andrew his brother; James and John; Philip and Bartholomew; 15 Matthew and Thomas; James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called the Zealot; 16 Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot who also became a traitor. 17 And He came down with them and stood on a level place with a crowd of His disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear Him and be healed of their diseases, 18 as well as those who were tormented with unclean spirits. And they were healed. 19 And the whole multitude sought to touch Him, for power went out from Him and healed them all. 20 Then He lifted up His eyes toward His disciples, and said: “Blessed are you poor, For yours is the kingdom of God. 21 Blessed are you who hunger now, For you shall be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, For you shall laugh. 22 Blessed are you when men hate you, And when they exclude you, And revile you, and cast out your name as evil, For the Son of Man’s sake. 23 Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! For indeed your reward is great in heaven, For in like manner their fathers did to the prophets. 24 “But woe to you who are rich, For you have received your consolation. 25 Woe to you who are full, For you shall hunger. Woe to you who laugh now, For you shall mourn and weep. 26 Woe to you when all men speak well of you, For so did their fathers to the false prophets. 27 “But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you. 29 To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either. 30 Give to everyone who asks of you. And from him who takes away your goods do not ask them back. 31 And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise. 32 “But if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinners to receive as much back. 35 But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil. 36 Therefore be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful. 37 “Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. 38 Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” 39 And He spoke a parable to them: “Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into the ditch? 40 A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher. 41 And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the plank in your own eye? 42 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me remove the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the plank that is in your own eye? Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck that is in your brother’s eye. 43 “For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44 For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. 45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. 46 “But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? 47 Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. 49 But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”
Love God with every part of your being
It must be embraced
There is order to the kingdom
It must be cultivated
It must be exercised towards others
God is in Charge of the kingdom
God is the king of His kingdom
And this is how it grows
You must follow the rules to be effective in that kingdom
Source of love is God
Personal experience of love by God who is in us
Characteristics of Gods love is what we are supposed to display
Sinful woman anoints Jesus
Her sins are forgiven for she loves much
whom little is forgiven the same loves little
our love for God is a response to who He is and what He has done for our lives
how we see God affects how we see others
We need to cultivate a freshness on how we love God
God’s love is always going to be what it needs to be, but ours can wax cold
Our love can grow hardened
If I think about what He has done for my life then maybe that will fan my love for Him
Gods love is displayed, initiated
1 John 4:16 NKJV
16 And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.
1 John 3:1 NKJV
1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.
1 Jo
2 Corinthians 5:14 NKJV
14 For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died;
A personal experience
1 John 4:12 NKJV
12 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us.
God’s Love needs to saturate every part of our lives
1 John 4:12 NKJV
12 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us.
1 John
IF we love one another His love abides in us and God’s love is perfected in us. If we love God and He has truly poured out His heart and we respond accordingly, we will also be responding accordingly and appropriately towards others
His love is proclaimed in the word but is proven on the cross
But it needs to be perfected. It is perfected in those who it has conquered
World won’t believe until they see the love in those that he has found
They have to see the effects of His love
Overflowing divine affection towards them
They have to see it permeate me in speech, thought, actions towards them
John 13:34–35 NKJV
34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
We will be known by our love for one another
Jesus washes their feet to teach them how to love others through loving servitude
Church is the family of God so if judgment starts here then so too the development and the cultivation of love
If we can’t work it out with people in the body how will it work out with those not part of the body?
Ephesians
Ephesians 4:16 NKJV
16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
Building each other up in love
Society is trying to redefine the church into what they think it should be
We can’t let society or culture define us
God has chosen us to display His love
We buy into the busyness and demands of our culture that limit us coming together
Our part is body life according to what God designed it to be
Love that unites us and supports us and heals us
Let His love conquer
If we can’t get it right here we can’t get it right outside
2 Corinthians 5:14 NKJV
14 For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died;
Luke 6:27–35 NKJV
27 “But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you. 29 To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either. 30 Give to everyone who asks of you. For even sinners do the same. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? Luke 6:27-
Luke 6:27–28 NKJV
27 “But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you.
:27-28
Jesus idea of love compared to our idea of love
He knows what it looks like and the challenges
He talks about supernatural love so that we can line up
Love enemies and do good to those
Phileo - brotherly love
Storge - a general kind of affection towards others or things
Eros - Erotic love
Agape - unconditional, supernatural love
King is demanding agape love, a love that supersedes natural inclinations, a choice, something that is unnatural to us,
unnatural deeds - love people who hate us
Unnatural words - bless those
Unnatural prayer - pray for those that mistreat you
Unnatural responses - turn other cheek. give cloak, walk 2 miles
His kingdom supersedes all culture
love is not vengeful but generous and giving
ultimate expression of the golden rule
Jesus version is positive - what we should do to others
Example is how Jesus interacts with Judas
the same love that he poured out to Judas he poured out to us
Do this love and we will be like Him
that likeness is our reward
God wants to bring His love into our relationships then those relationships will be what He designed them to be
We need to open up our hearts and trust Him with this love
John 13:18 NKJV
18 “I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen; but that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘He who eats bread with Me has lifted up his heel against Me.’
Jesus shows us how much far His love goes
Love at He is being betrayed and knows it
Jesus showing unconditional love to Judas
We need to come to an end of our ability to tap into His ability to love the unlovable
Trust God with the results and model God’s love to others
Why did Jesus tell the scribe that he was “not far” from the kingdom of God?
What was different about his observations and how he related to Jesus?
What are some of the characteristics of God’s love that we see in the following verses?
What are ways we can fan or cultivate our love for God?
How is it true that they way we see God affects the way we see others?
What are the 4 different types of love? What is unique about Agape love?
Why is this love “unnatural”?
What are some examples of Jesus displaying this kind of love?
Why is unconditional love hard for us to live out as well as to practice?
Because we are used to putting conditions on things
