This Week’s Theme: Growing in God’s Placement
Memory Verse: Exodus 31:3 “3 And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,”
This Week’s Word is Filled with the Spirit: To be filled with the Holy Spirit is to be energized and controlled by the third person of the Godhead in such a way that under the acknowledged lordship of Jesus Christ the full presence and power of God are experienced. Spirit-filling leads to renewal, obedience, boldness in testimony and an arresting quality in believers’ lives.
Essence of the Text in a Sentence: God provides oversight and ability concerning the construction of His tabernacle.
Sermon Objective: I am looking for
Sermon Text: Exodus 31:1-11
Exodus 31:1–11 NKJV
1 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 2 “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. 3 And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, 4 to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, 5 in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of workmanship. 6 “And I, indeed I, have appointed with him Aholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and I have put wisdom in the hearts of all the gifted artisans, that they may make all that I have commanded you: 7 the tabernacle of meeting, the ark of the Testimony and the mercy seat that is on it, and all the furniture of the tabernacle— 8 the table and its utensils, the pure gold lampstand with all its utensils, the altar of incense, 9 the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the laver and its base— 10 the garments of ministry, the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments of his sons, to minister as priests, 11 and the anointing oil and sweet incense for the holy place. According to all that I have commanded you they shall do.”
Introduction:
Transition:
Big Idea of the Text:

Saints must build God’s house by recognizing and using the gifts given.

I. God Provides Your Placement

Exodus 31:2 NKJV
2 “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah.
Exposition: Look at the text. The LORD directs Moses’ attention. He directs him to witness what He has done. God says, “See, I have called” this word ‘called’ in the Hebrew is “qara [kaw-raw]” which means to appoint, call out and endow. God is saying I called, appointed and provided Bezalel (Bets-sal-EL) the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe. LOOK AT VERSE SIX. GOD REPEATS
Exodus 31:6 NKJV
6 “And I, indeed I, have appointed with him Aholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and I have put wisdom in the hearts of all the gifted artisans, that they may make all that I have commanded you:
Application (What difference does it make? Apply it, what, where, why, and how): Positive Application: Describe the conditions if your solution is actually carried out. Picture the listeners in that situation actually enjoying the safety, pleasure, or pride that your proposal will produce. Negative Application: Describe conditions if your solution is not carried out. Picture the audience feeling the bad effects or unpleasantness that the failure to effect your solution will produce. Contrast Application: Combination of 1 and 2. Begin with the negative method (undesirable situation) and conclude with the positive method (desirable solution).
Are you guilty of thinking the power is in your ability?
Name times in the past when you thought you knew what to do.

II. God Provides Your Present

Exodus 31:3 NKJV
3 And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,
Exodus 31:6 NKJV
6 “And I, indeed I, have appointed with him Aholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and I have put wisdom in the hearts of all the gifted artisans, that they may make all that I have commanded you:
Exposition: GOD TELLS MOSES IN VERSE 3 “I HAVE FILLED HIM WITH THE SPIRIT OF GOD” AND IN VERSE 6 “I HAVE PUT WISDOM IN . . .” GOD MAKES CLEAR THAT HE PROVIDES WHAT WAS NEEDED.

WISDOM

WISDOM IN THIS CASE IS THE SKILL TO INVENT THE NECESSARY OBJECTS, UTENSILS, FURNITURE, ETC TO COMPLETE THE TABERNACLE.
Exodus 28:3 NKJV
3 So you shall speak to all who are gifted artisans, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments, to consecrate him, that he may minister to Me as priest.
Exodus 35:26 NKJV
26 And all the women whose hearts stirred with wisdom spun yarn of goats’ hair.
Exodus 36:1 NKJV
1 “And Bezalel and Aholiab, and every gifted artisan in whom the Lord has put wisdom and understanding, to know how to do all manner of work for the service of the sanctuary, shall do according to all that the Lord has commanded.”

UNDERSTANDING

Exodus 31:3 NKJV
3 And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,
UNDERSTANDING IS TO RECEIVE WITH CLARITY AND APPRECIATE THE DIRECTIONS GIVEN THEM CONCERNING WHAT GOD WANTED.

KNOWLEDGE

Exodus 31:3 NKJV
3 And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,
KNOWLEDGE IS THAT INFORMATION WHICH IS ACQUIRED BY EXPERIENCE AND ACQUAINTANCE WITH FACTS.
Not only did God give Bezalel the spirit of God in wisdom, understanding, in knowledge. But the Spirit of God was to be working in him in all manner of workmanship, to do what He wanted.

III. God Provides Your Purpose

Exposition (What does that mean? Explain it): Hear the confession of Joseph! After being presented before the king as a someone who could interpret his dream, Joseph did not allow the gravity of this situation to overtake his rational thinking.

TO DESIGN

Exodus 31:4 NKJV
4 to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze,

TO WORK IN

Exodus 31:4–5 NKJV
4 to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, 5 in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of workmanship.

TO MAKE ALL

Exodus 31:6–11 NKJV
Application (What difference does it make? Apply it, what, where, why, and how): Positive Application: Describe
Are you guilty of thinking the power is in your ability?
Name times in the past when you thought you knew what to do.

God will not give you a task to do without providing the means to do it.

Application: Brothers and sister in Christ, just as in the building of the tabernacle, the same is true today for the church, which is the body of Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:11 NKJV
11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

IV. God Provides Your Partnership

Exodus 31:6 NKJV
6 “And I, indeed I, have appointed with him Aholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and I have put wisdom in the hearts of all the gifted artisans, that they may make all that I have commanded you:
Exposition (What does that mean? Explain it): Hear the confession of Joseph! After being presented before the king as a someone who could interpret his dream, Joseph did not allow the gravity of this situation to overtake his rational thinking.
1 Corinthians 12:15–20 NKJV
15 If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I am not of the body,” is it therefore not of the body? 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? 18 But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. 19 And if they were all one member, where would the body be? 20 But now indeed there are many members, yet one body.
Application (What difference does it make? Apply it, what, where, why, and how): Positive Application: Describe
Are you guilty of thinking the power is in your ability?
Name times in the past when you thought you knew what to do.
