We worship an awesome God
I am so grateful that this past week I was able to start to really reflect on the true impact of the Vision Conference… These are truly moments that elevate our perspective. A moment in life to be engulfed in worship, praise, fellowship and Bible study. Many of us paused everything else in our lives for a moment to focus wholly on God and His kingdom.
Philippians 4:8 NIV
8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
There were some complaints though… the main complaint was that we couldn’t invite friends to the conference for free… I get it… it truly was a moment you didn’t want to miss, but do we have the same attitude all the time....
1 Kings 19:11–13 ESV
11 And he said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper. 13 And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
God is in the whisper… He is just a present in middle school cafetorium as He is in a huge conference… We need to learn to look for and appreciate the whispers of the Lord… the moments he grabs our hearts and molds our minds.
We are so accustomed of the miraculous that it becomes mundane...
EX. Kyle Mead is a budding magician… In a past life I was also a magician, a couple of weeks ago he showed me some of the tricks that he was learning and because I KNEW what he was doing, I was unimpressed… But you know what, last week he showed me a couple new tricks and EVEN THOUGH I KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING, I COULDN’T SEE IT!
The cool thing was the same sense of amazement I felt as a 10 year old when I first saw magic came back…
The same thing can happen to us spiritually… Many of us have been doing this for a minute and are easily unimpressed. A major reason that we deal with spiritual fatigue and get caught up in evil is a lack of “fear of God” this happens when we fail to live in a state of being awestruck.
Jeremiah 2:19 (NIV)
19 Your wickedness will punish you; your backsliding will rebuke you. Consider then and realize how evil and bitter it is for you when you forsake the Lord your God and have no awe of me,” declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.
We need to push past the clutter and the noise so that we can encounter GOD!
We need to find him in His Word!
Psalm 119:120 NIV
120 My flesh trembles in fear of you; I stand in awe of your laws.
Are we as hungry for God’s word today as we were in the day of our baptism? Do we still stand in awe of God’s wisdom? the penetrating nature of the bible? Or have we become unimpressed with the scriptures over the years?
We need to be continually inspired by His work.
Habakkuk 3:2 NIV
2 Lord, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, Lord. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy.
Do God’s deeds inspire us? Are we in awe of him? Do we stand in reverent amazement?
We need to come to Him is a posture of learner… not a teacher.
Ecclesiastes 5:1 NIV
1 Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong.
We need to revive daily the feeling of wonder that we felt in the moments that we were most impacted by God! The joy of new salvation, the exhilaration of being part of something larger than ourselves. The conviction of belonging to an invincible kingdom!
We must allow God to break our hearts and excite us again!!!
Acts 2:42–47 NIV
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
One of the most awe inspiring miracles that I have ever witnessed is the repentance and transformation of a sinner… I remember a time when many would pause everything and interrupt their lives to welcome a new christian out of the waters of baptism and into the Kingdom of God… We need to get back to being that excited about salvation!
Genesis 26:18 NIV
18 Isaac reopened the wells that had been dug in the time of his father Abraham, which the Philistines had stopped up after Abraham died, and he gave them the same names his father had given them.
Isaiah 12:3 NIV
3 With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.
