Why is the name important?

The way in which the world understands the meaning of conquest is one thing, but God turns conquest upside down. As we look at Christ's words to the Church of Smyrna we begin to see how Christ instructs His Church to conquer and it isn't what you might imagine!

In this sermon we consider what it means for Christ to be the stumbling stone of those who reject Him, & the cornerstone of those who are joined to Him by faith. Though God desires all to be saved & come to the knowledge of the truth, He is not thwarted by those who reject His Gospel. We find encouragement however in the reality that God has taken we who once were not His people, & made us a new creation in Christ. In 1 Peter 2:7-10 we begin to see just how new our identity in Jesus really is.
